Mom Gift Help, please

I asked my mom what she wanted for Christmas this year and she said rather than gifts she wants to "experience stuff".  So I'm thinking a wine or cooking class locally for both of us to attend, a fun mother/daughter day.  But I wanted to run the "experience stuff" by you all to see if you had any unique suggestions for the Portland area.  Or even something not in Portland like a day trip kind of thing.  Thanks ladies!

Re: Mom Gift Help, please

  • I really like your ideas for a wine or cooking class. You could also do a winery tour and tasting together, there's a ton of awesome vineyards and wineries around the area.

If she's likes the theater you could see a show together, or a concert. A few years ago I bought my mom tickets to Oklahoma!, we had a nice dinner at Morton's before and went together, it was a great time.

A spa day together would be nice, too. How often do moms treat themselves to that kind of thing?

  • If you decide to go the cooking class route, Sur La Table is good option. I believe one of the stores around here offer them. We took one back in VA and loved it.

What about a trip to Crater Lake of the Oregon Gardens or something like that?

  • The Moot Hood Railway has dinner train and brunch trains as well as other excursion train rides. Not sure if your mom is interested. I have never done this, but I know a friend who bought tickets for her parents and they loved it.

  • Thank you all for your suggestions!!!  I went today and purchased two tickets to Movin' Out, it's a play/show with music by Billy Joel.  Now I hope she invites me to use the second ticket Embarrassed
