(vent)Christmas is becoming a total

cluster$%&)*(.

Why? I have no idea! DH and I have said we're open and willing to drive to OC to celebrate with his family on XMAS afternoon/evening - as we always have. We told my family that we would spend early Xmas morning with just us and Allison and then meet them at my grandma's for the big family tamale fest. This has been the plan all along, and it was good. THen it all started to unravel this weekend.

Turns out NO ONE on DHs side is willing to host the affair for the 10 of us. We hosted Thanksgiving(for 20+) and only one of DHs 5 siblings and his parents showed. We entertained the idea of hosting Xmas too(just so it would happen), but we just can't do it with our work schedules. So it turns out there will be no xmas on DHs side and he is really sad about that. His parents are totally fed up with the other "kids", so we'll be having Xmas brunch with them [alone!] on Sunday before Xmas. It still won't be the same and we were really looking forward to sharing Allison's first Christmas with them - but quite frankly it's their loss, and sadly Allison will lose out on getting to know them if their behavior continues. We can't and won't bend over backward trying to please people. I'm sure they'll end up taggling along for brunch too- I just know it. As long as they don't have to put forth the effort, they're happy. But if they show up, it's really is cool with me and I'll be happy to see them - it's just too bad that it ends up being so much drama for such a simple conclusion.

So then my family informs me that they have been thinking of all going out to dinner for Christmas dinner, which sounds great! Thinking without action avails nothing. So, it is one week before Xmas, and I'm sure that getting reservations will be a nightmare! I put myself in charge of getting this done, because I know my fam will drop the ball and we'll end up sitting around eating taco smell on christmas night - which could very well make it the best Christmas EVER. lol.

So...which restaurants are even open on Christmas? Any ideas?

  • There was a sign outside of Dominoes' Pizza that read "We are open Christmas!" jk

I don't know why Christmas always has to be an ordeal --was it this way when we were kids, and we just didn't notice?

Wan-nabe's suggestion of Chinese is great -can't go wrong with banquet-style dining on a holiday! Where do you live? There's a great Chinese place in Gardena...

  • ps: i love, love, love that pic of Allison! It reminds me of pics of my little sister when she was a baby.
  • I forgot to mention.....

THANKS FOR LETTING ME VENT! :-)
