More Stories from the Shopping Line

My first pointless story of "Dollar Bills Betty" reminds me of another holiday line happening that just absolutely floored me.

Last weekend DH and I were checking out at a store, and I walk up to a line, and this lady totally butts in front of me. We're talking brazen, "I'm gettin' in front of you even though I totally know you were in line" kind of butting.

It annoyed me so much, and was so rude that I said to DH, "Come on, we're changing lines. I can't be in a line with a person like that." And we moved over to the next line that was moving along quite well.

I thought I was so smart.

Well there was this kid who was about 6 or 7 in front of us, and he didn't look like he belonged to the older lady in front of him so I didn't know what the deal was.

The older lady is done checking out, and the kid turns around and yells, "Mom! It's our turn!"

The lady who had butted in front of me in the other line, was using her kid as a line place holder!  So the lady that butted in front me comes out of the line I had been in, and gets in front of me to check out!  I actually said out loud, "Really. Really? Seriously." Whaaaa? Who does that?

Re: More Stories from the Shopping Line

  • That is ridiculous.  Was this at Wal-Mart?
  • Walmart, pish. This was at the fine retailer "Burlington Coat Factory". I only shop at the most upscale, polite places for my discount goods. Stick out tongue

  • Ugh! I hate that!

My Mom was in Maine over Thanksgiving and they stopped in a Christmas Tree Shop on BF.  There was a long line and my Mom waited patiently.  She noticed a guy and his wife get into line after her and they were so obviously butting up in line. My Mom pointed out the end of the line to them and they left. When my Mom got to the register she noticed this man and his wife behind her again and my Mom again said that it isn't fair to everyone else in line (she said it was an elderly woman behind her that this man kept getting in front of).  The man's wife really rudely said to my Mom, "What ever happened to the Christmas spirit?" My mom, who is super-calm said, "Yes, what did happen to it?"  The man then got all pissy and claimed that since he is from somewhere town, where the first Christmas Tree Shop is located, that he has a right to butt up in line. Um, what? My Mom replied with, "Yes, you are right.  Where I live in PA, we just got ours, so I guess that means you have every right to go first."  People are so stinkin' annoying!

  • Wow... that is just crazy! This is exactly why I avoid the stores this time of year.

Today I was at Weis, where our post office is also located, in a long line for the PO. There was an elderly lady in front of me who was telling me her husband was in ICU and she was anxious to get out of there. Then she sees a friend and starts telling her friend about her husband and started to cry. It made me feel so awful! Well when she FINALLY gets up to the front to send her package (the line was very long), the person working the desk was so mean to her! It really made me want to cry for this woman who's heart was hurting so badly and then was treated meanly by the cashier just because it was a busy day.

  • LOL, it sounded like something that would happen at Wal-Mart....but, with my recent experience at a Burlington Coat Factory, I can totally see it happening there too!
  • One time when I was a kid during the holiday season my mom and I were at Stop and Shop (a grocery store that's in New England). So with the lines be crazy long we chose a line that had people with only small handbaskets with them.  So just as the person in front of us with like three items in his basket is about to approach the checkout his wife showed up with a cart FULL of groceries and got in line in front of us. My mom flipped.  All I remember thinking is god this is embarrassing, but I was a kid. If that happened to me now, I'd be so pissed.
  • People never cease to amaze me. This is why they should legalize forced sterilization. You know it's the inconsiderate, rude, just plain terrible people who have the most children! And they, in turn, end up even worse than their parents, and the cycle continues.

Another thing that drives me insane at stores is self checkout. It is ALWAYS older people with a cart FULL of stuff who don't know how to use it. There needs to be a 10 items or less requirement or an age  or time requirement or something on those! The whole point of self checkout is to do it YOURSELF, not to have the attendant spend 20 minutes guiding you through the process, while I stand in line behind you with my 2 items, seething!!! /end rant
