My MIL is so freaking weird

I know I complain about my ILs quite a bit, but you are my outlet for their crazyness!

Last year, part of my MIL's gift from us was season 1 of Ugly Betty on DVD. She looooves Betty La Fea (Spanish version) so we thought she would enjoy the ABC version. She didn't. She opened the packaging and then promptly returned it to us saying she would never have time to watch it and she didn't want it. Great. Whatever. Nevermind that she opened it making it unreturnable. Nevermind that she had to tell us that she didn't want our gift.

Well, we just got a call from her. Almost a year later. She wants it back. WHAT?! She is so freaking strange. Who on earth returns a gift and then one year later demands it back?

Re: My MIL is so freaking weird

  • Wow, that's weird.  I'm sorry!!  You definitely have a VERY weird MIL!
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • That IS weird. Did she think that you were just holding onto it indefinitely until she decided she wanted it back? Huh? Maybe she saw an episode and changed her mind.
  • Tell her you donated it to [insert group that tugs at her heart strings] when she didn't want it. ?She wouldn't ask for it back from them, would she?

Probably not. But she would just hold a passive aggressive grudge against me for not being a better safekeeper of her things. Ha!

My husband doesn't get my frustration. He think her little quirks just add to her motherly charm. Now you see why I must complain here?

  • You should follow up with telling her that from now on, you'll donate to charity in lieu of gifts to her. ?Not only will her charity get help, but it's a more efficient process than you buying gifts, her returning them, then you donating them :) ?I bet that would go over like a lead balloon.
