Layoffs

Is CAT in Peoria laying people off yet?  Decatur told 2/3 of their employees earlier this week that they're laid off from mid-January until mid-March.

Re: Layoffs

  • Mossville is having 824 of it's people go in February. Big on the news today. They are also closing down plants in E. Peoria for a week each in February and March acoording to the news as well too. I'm sure this won't be the last.

A good portion of the agency workers have had their contracts terminated as well. "Flexible workforce" according to CAT. I'm sure those people don't consider their job "flexible."

DH and I have talked about this and what it might mean at the management level. We certantly don't want anyone to loose their jobs, but maybe no bonuses and no more tuition assistance (for those starting new programs- continue to help those already working on their degree) until the company improves? We already see no job transfers out of the area, no non-essential business travel, & hiring feezes.

    Any other thoughts?

  • DH hasn't gone up to Peoria for work stuff for a while now.  He was supposed to go in October, but it was cancelled.  Decatur laid off all of the people employed through Volt (agency people), as well as the 2nd and 3rd shifts.  I think they're laid off from mid-January through mid-March.  DH has been told that he has nothing to worry about (he's in the ERD program), though that doesn't stop us from worrying.  He's toyed with the idea of getting a part-time job on the side just to build up our savings in case something does happen.  His travel freeze is being lifted in January, though, so he'll be able to go places for work.

I hope your husband's job is safe!

There is some info regarding CAT announcements today. So far I think everything is safe for us. I'm not surprised they offered voluntary buyouts.
