babyproofing bookshelves? saving the books!

DD keeps pulling everything on the shelves off.  we dont have room to clear them off...any ideas how to babyproof it?

Re: babyproofing bookshelves? saving the books!

  • Can you drape fabric over so she can't get to the books? Or put a superyard around the bookcase so she can't get to them? It's funny, you think you've babyproofed, and then they prove you wrong!
  • I'm having the same problem with all of my DVD's & CD's! Right now, I'm just saying "NO!" a million times a day and trying to distract her from crawling over there. I'm interested to see what other Mom's can suggest.
  • We have one tiny book shelf just for him and his board books.  We let him get books and make a mess.  No worries!  He has another bookshelf in his room.  We put his toys and other "touchable" things on the bottom shelves so if he grabs them.  All his nicer books and other things are higher where he can't reach.

As for the dvd's/cds.  We put a few empty cases on the bottom shelf in our living room and put the rest in a dvd holder from ikea.  it has a zipper so he can't get to it now.  And they are all on the bottom.  So when he feels the need to grab a dvd case, we dont worry too much.  Yes, there has been occasion when we forget and he gets a dvd out of the case.. but we just take it away and put it out of his reach.

But then again, my little guy is fairly good at listening to "no".  He have a photo frame in his reach and he has only grabbed it once.  However, we had a photo album that had to be moved because he wanted to see his pictures.

  • Haha! Your funny :o)
