Stupid cars...

On my way home from work on Tuesday I had this symbol on my dashboard that was flashing alerting that something was wrong.  I got home and looked it up in the manual to find that I am having exhaust issues.  Wonderful!  So I took it in this morning to get fixed (still under warranty) and I just got the call that some big part is needed and it won't be in for another week or so.  That's GREAT news...now I have NO car a week before Christmas and I have all kinds of appts...this should be interesting.  He doesn't think it will be ready before Christmas and its not safe to drive until the part gets here so...perfect timing.  It's not an old car either and I thought volkswagons were so reliable??  UGH!  Sorry, I just needed to vent!

Re: Stupid cars...

  • That sucks.  If they don't have the part don't they have a loaner car they can give you?  I thought dealerships did things like that.
  • You know Brandy...I didn't even think of that!  I have such a scatter brain lately.  The service manager guy that I talked to didn't even offer that as an option.  You think they would especially since it's a warranty issue.
  • That is such a pain, even worse not to have a car when you're so busy.  I hope they can fix it quickly for you!

  • That really sucks!  At least it happened while it was under warranty, it sounds like something that could be expensive. Can you borrow a car from someone to use?

  • That really does suck Lesli.  I hope they're able to get it back to you as soon as possible.

I would definitely inquire about a loaner car.  Do you have a good relationship with the salesperson you bought the car off of?  Personally I would call them first and explain the issue and ask if they think its possible to get a loaner car.  When I had a sensor issue with my car the head service manager (BETH!  I have nothing but pure hatred for this woman) gave me a really hard time about getting a loaner car when I brought my car in a second time to have something fixed that was incorrect the first time - read THEIR mistake.  The first time I brought it in I dealt with my salesperson and he was more than accommodating . . but with the service dept I had to fight tooth and nail to get a loaner car to use while work was being done.

  • I'm right there with you Lesli!  DH has a check engine light coming on every once in a while.  We were supposed to take it in this week but with the bad weather I wasn't willing to take it to Harrisburg.  We take it in next week.  And we both need new tires.  I hate spending money on the cars!
  • Oh yeah Jen, I remember all those issues with your car when I had my accident.  I think I may call them back and discuss a loaner car.  It isn't a HUGE deal that I don't have my car...it's more annoying than anything else.  Luckily DH is working from home the next several days so he can just take me to the places I need to go or I will just take his car instead.  It's nice that my mom can pick me up for work since we work together.

  • They should give you a loaner car!  Check with your car insurance -- for an extra couple bucks a month, we added the ability to have a rental car if we needed it.  Maybe yours has that too?
  • Ugh, that stinks.  I feel your pain. My inspection is due this month and I'm afraid they're going to need to keep my car for awhile since it needs a lot of work.  Fortunately, we have a spare vehicle that we keep around for when stuff like this happens.  I hope they are able to fix your car quickly and that they don't fight you about the loaner.
  • Ugh Lesli I'm sorry to hear about your car!  That really sucks.  Cars can be such a pain in the butt.  Maybe the part will come in quicker than they anticipate and you'll get it back sooner.
