Random office vent

Yesterday, my boss asked us to send him our parents' addresses so we could send them our firm's Christmas cards. So, I did.

Same boss just walked by my office and asked me if my mom really spells her name as I wrote it in the email. When I confirmed, he chuckled.

Two issues:

1. Does he really think I don't know how to spell my mom's name?

2. I know it's an uncommon spelling of a really common name, but it's not that weird.

Re: Random office vent

  • Your company is sending your parents a christmas card? That's random.

    Slainte!

I just figured family law, cards to family... :)

That is funny.  Although is her name a simple typo away from the regular spelling?  Like Marie and Mari?  or Jaime and Jamie? or Melisa and Melissa?  If not, then it's totally an eyeroll moment. :)

  • Kinda.... it ends in an "i" instead of a "y" like her name normally does.

I kinda get clarifying in case of a typo. It's the chuckle I don't get.

I don't think that falls in the 'easy typo' category (unlike double-letters or dropping of a lettler).  Now if you had put a "u" instead of the "y"...

  • WTH? That's stupid.  There's nothing wrong with that!
