Cake Balls - who has the best recipe?

Hi ladies -?

I want to try making these next week. I saw the recipe on Bakerella but I thought (in our cake ball madness) awhile back people were making variations of the recipe.

If you have one you love, will you please share it with me?

Thanks!!!?

Re: Cake Balls - who has the best recipe?

  • I just made these yesterday and used the Bakerella recipe - getting the chocolate on those balls in a pain in the ass though. I will also be interested to see how other people have mastered this...   :)

  • i found that hershey's chocolate bars worked really well.

I tried ghiradelli, and man was it a pain!

I actually bought those jumbo Hershey chocolate bars and then melted them in a pan.  I stuck the chocolate in a small pan and then put that pot in a bigger pot that had boiling water and melted it that way so it wouldn't scorch.  The Hershey milk chocolate really coated on there pretty easy and then it dried super quick and got hard.

  • i've made them more than a few times and i've found the the ones with molds work the best.

i went to a candy store and bought peanut butter cups and then i would pour about a half teaspoon of chocolate into it and press the back into it, let it set then hold it from the botton and dip the top...so much easier, let me see if i can find the link for you.

  • Lorena - Thanks! But I am confused. You pour the chocolate in the cup and then put the ball in it and leave it there? Or dip it and put the other end in it and leave it there?

I already bought the sticks, so I'll probably make the pops first.?

What recipe do you use? TIA

  • once the cake is hardended ( i put it in the freezer for a good 5 mins the harder the cake ball is the easier it is to work with, because the cake itself is kinda mushy) and my chocolate melted, a drop a little in the mold and then let it set, again put it in the freezer for a good 5 - 10 mins. the harder the choclate, the easier for it to pop out of the mold.

then once they are all dipped and ready i put them in the freezer again, while i set up the top part of the cake, and dip them again...

it's pretty easy i hope this makes sense....i must say, i do use a lot of steps mainly caue i've found its easier..

i use her recipe to make the cake, once it's totally cooled then i crumble it, i only add a small cream cheese and 1 milk chocolate frosting jar...

    thats it..yum yum, enjoy!
