Indy: cheap entertainment ideas?

I found discounted bowling, but what are some other cheap date ideas?

Mike and I need to spend more time together now that I'm not traveling like crazy, but I'm unemployed so we are trying to do free or cheap things around the city :)

I can think of driving around and looking at lights, going to the circle for lights, walk on the canal, Christmas at the Zoo......

Move along, nothing to see here.....

Re: Indy: cheap entertainment ideas?

  • Hmm...

    - go to Jillians or some other arcade and spend some quarters. Shane and I used to do this for a date night and its actually really fun :)

    - The Indianapolis Museum of Art and other galleries. They have interactive exhibits and its fun to see all the art, history, etc.. one of my favorites!

    - a cooking class

We watch a lot of movies at home, play a lot of rock band, and generally chilax ;) All of which are free!! I know its not a super sexy date night (fun yes, sexy, no :) but you guys are always welcome to come hang out  with us ;)

  • I think we'd have some fun with rock band - we've only played it once and it was pretty funny!

We're not so worried about sexy as we are about spending time together. It's been a rough 6 months for me (and us), so we need to spend some time together vs. only seeing each other twice a week in passing as I flurry around.

We'd love to spend time with you guys, but ya'll are crazy busy! Let us know when you have a minute :P

Move along, nothing to see here.....
  • Well, once we get a good snow fall, we're going to go sledding. That's always free if you already have a sled.

I do know there is a cheap theater on E. Washington St. I think it was across from the mall. It's like a dollar theater kind of thing.

When the weather gets nice you can always hang out on the Monon... but that's a few months away.

I agree that if you're looking for cheap things to do, staying in is usually the best way to do it (at least in the wintertime). You could order a pizza (or do a take and bake), sit down and watch a movie.

Dh and I like to go to Starbucks together. We order a couple drinks and we hang out with each other while sipping on it. Sometimes we'll go for a drive afterwards, sometimes we'll go shopping.

  • I just made a list about a month ago of things to do that are basically free - mostly indoors.  Some ideas were:

     play a puzzle

    play a board game

cook dinner together (and go buy the ingredients/pick out a recipe together, etc)

go to borders and get a coffee and just hang out and read

pop popcorn and make hot chocolate and watch a movie at home

    volunteer together

  • Kerasotes theatres has a 5 buck club where you can see certain new movies for just 5 bucks after they have been out a few weeks. https://www.fivebuckclub.net/ to sign up and get your cards.

If you live in the city limits and can get or already have a card, the Indianapolis Library rocks for movies and books. They have just about anything you can think of and they let you check out up to 150 CDs at a time. We like going to the central library on weekends because of the architecture.

For cheap movies at home: www.hulu.com (free) or visit Marsh or McDonalds for a $1 Redbox.

For cheap pizza, Hungry Howies is yummy and you can usually get one for close to $5 carry-out with a coupon

We have never gone, but always talk about going ice skating at the fairgrounds.
