What's the Deal This Year?

So a lot of my friends, coworkers, etc.(myself included)  have expressed that they aren't in the holiday spirit much this year and/or it caught up with them and they just don't feel very "Christmasy".

All that said, what is the deal this year? The economy? Thanksgiving coming late (someone mentioned that)? What's the deal and how can we overcome this (well, how can I overcome it?) I dunno,I just feel kinda blah this year...

Re: What's the Deal This Year?

  • I'm kinda with you there. I haven't been as into it as I have in the past (I didn't even make DH put up lights on the house!). For me, it just seems like it came up so fast and I didn't have any time to react!

  • I feel very blah about the holidays. I'm normally not a fan because I have to deal with both families, but I at least get happy about baking and buying presents for people.

I think for me, I've just had a really hard 6 months and after being laid off twice, especially before the holidays, I'm really worried about money and I don't feel like I should be happy right now.

I forced myself to finally put up the tree and I actually moved it this year so it was in a more visible area of the house. It's cheered me up some.

Could you bake/cook or listen to holiday music to get in the mood? I heart Glen Miller on the TV the other day and downloaded In the Mood because it was one of my favorite holiday songs growing up :)

Move along, nothing to see here.....
  • Yeah, we have the tree up, I have super Christmas music on the zune and the presents are out and about. I miss my sister and her family, I miss they way Christmas was as a kid (free of the silliness that adults put on it) and all that stuff. That said, I am getting there. I went to my grandma's today and we had a nice visit and talked about Christmas's past and stuff so yeah. Its coming... I think its just a blah year for everyone though..
  • I'm always freaked out and blue this time of year.  I hate the weather, I hate how my family is crazy and lays huge guilt trips on me, and I can't seem to get my act together enough to decorate and bake and shop and everything involved with the holidays.  I've just come to accept that I'm a big Christmas Scrooge.

     Bah, humbug!

  • Not a big fan of Holidays either. Sad.?
  • Seeing the Trans-Siberian Orchestra last night put me in the spirit for awhile!

I also know what it's like to not feel as excited as everyone else. I am looking forward to them being over. I want to see family, but I don't know how many stops I care to make just on Christmas Eve. I wish I had a whole vacation to spread it out, but I don't.

I also feel humbug because I feel obligated to see some people that I might not actually want to see.
