Hi! Planning to move to Vegas

Hi ladies. I see that this board is fairly slow. I did my homework and searched back through all the posts I could find about people re-locating and which areas you all recommended.

It seems at this point that we have narrowed our search down to two areas. Henderson and Summerlin. Well, before reading some of your posts here. I will have to look more into Mountains Edge, Providence and Southern Highlands apparently from the posts I've seen here.

We really only looked at Summerlin and Henderson when we were in Vegas last. We checked out KB Homes in both areas. We liked both neighborhoods and really liked a specific floorplan in Henderson. (Commuting is not an issue so we can live wherever in Vegas).

So, I just thought I would start a new post, kind of asking the same things as others have. More specifically, if you can think of Pros & Cons of both Henderson and Summerlin, I would love to get your opinions.

Also, where is the Providence area? I cannot seem to find anything that says that on a map or in home searches.

I think I know where Mountains Edge is? But I'm not totally sure. Any further information on that would be great.

Overall I would just really appreciate your opinions on which neighborhoods are the best. (Quietest, nicest, prettiest, best schools, most things to do.. you get it. ;) )

?

Thank You! ?

  • DH and I live in Summerlin and like it quite a bit. ?Honestly, I'm not a fan of living in Vegas at all (I'm from the east coast and really miss it), but if you must live here I'd chose Summerlin. ?It's nice because we're at a higher elevation, so during the summer it's about 5 degrees cooler than on the strip or in Henderson. ?(That may not sound like a lot, but when it's 110 every little bit helps!) ?It's also quite pretty out here, they do their best to keep the grass green and have trees growing. ?The schools are good (in terms of Clark County) and there are lots of things to do - shopping, restaurants, Red Rock Canyon, etc. ?Good luck with your move!

  • I haven't been on the boards b/c DH, DD and I were away for the holidays.  We live in Southern Highlands and really like it.  It is easy to access Henderson and Summerlin from here.  We are right off 15 South at Silverado Ranch area and that has a lot there as well.  It is an easy trip to the Strip too.  Our DD is only 2 months old, but I do here that schools are good here.  Mountains Edge is off of Blue Diamond and I believe Durango.  M+J could help you....that is where she lives.  Providence is way north west, we have friends who just built a house there and like it.  Hope that helps!

Henderson is a pretty large area.  Where abouts in Henderson?  I actually really like Henderson and actually prefer it to Summerlin, depending on the area.

  • Thank you for the replies! I'm sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Everything you posted is really helpful.

m+j - I don't know how to describe where in Henderson we looked. It was a large new community way off the main road. I can't remember the name of the community. If you are coming from the south, it's on the right side of the main road. (Sorry I don't know enough to be more specific than that.)

Ok I just looked up a map.

  • You may already be here - this post is old but if not, I vote for Henderson, that's where I live.  It's about 20 min from the Strip where I work and the shopping is awesome.  Also, it's really quiet.  Although I think in general Summerlin is a nicer, more suburb-y area.  It's also closer to Mount Charleston where we like to go in the summer to escape the horrid heat!  Hope you like Vegas!
