Foodie update

I wanted to report back on a few of the recipes I had posted over the last couple weeks.  I found several winners -- yay, epicurious!  I'm not sure I need another cookbook ever.  Though I do enjoy looking at the pretty pictures Smile

I made a dark chocolate / ginger tart this weekend for early Christmas dinner with the in-laws.  It was very easy and delicious!  The candied ginger and black pepper added awesome flavor.  It's rich, so it serves many.  It was a bit of work, figuring out the tart pan, esp when it was slippery from the buttery crust and I needed to remove the sides.  There was a near-disaster slam into the side of a cabinet, but the tart stayed (mostly) in tact.  Gtown has raved about gingersnaps from Trader Joes in the past, and they were very, very tasty.  This is great b/c you can make it a day ahead and just keep it cold in between.  The only tip on this tart is to leave plenty of time to let it cool before putting it in the fridge.  I made it at midnight after getting home from a concert (bleh), and was NOT gonna stay up for it to cool.  I had one small crack, which wasn't bad, but I'm sure could have been avoided.

I made this spicy hummus for our tree-trimming party.  It was a huge hit.  It is *very* spicy, so if you don't love red pepper, this is not for you!  But it was great with a lot of fun flavors.  It makes a huge amount.  I didn't make their bruschetta recipe, just toasted some baguette slices and slathered this on.

Asparagus in puff pastry was very yummy and a huge hit at our party as well.  It uses store-bought puff pastry and fresh parm.  You can make them ahead and then just pop them in the oven.  Serve warm.  Dee-lish!

I made chicks in blankets last year with chicken andouille sausage and LOVED them.  This year, I could only find the chicken and apple, which I used and they were fine.  Not as good as the andouille, so I'd recommend finding that if you make these.  Again, very easy to make ahead and freeze in advance of company.

Happy eating!
