Does anyone know of a good accountant in the Indy area? I am considering starting my own business, but I need to talk with someone about how to keep books and what kind of impact it will have on my taxes.
Any idea about how much it should cost for a consultation?
Re: Accountants in Indy?
Thanks for the kind words. It kills me because my mom used to be a small business accountant, but she hasn't practiced in a decade, and she is mentally unstable, so I can't ask her for advice.
I am not sure if I'm going to actually start the business or not. That's part of why I need to talk to an accountant. They can help me decide if it is worth it or not, because they can help figure out how much of my income I'd get to keep and how much would go to taxes. I also need help setting up the books. I know there are programs out there that can do it, but I need something much more simple than Quick Books. I don't have a payroll or invoices, so it seems a bit much.
Self employment is a beast, and I need help taming the beast.
I have a couple of suggestions- though they are indirect rather than just direct to a tax consultant.
check out www.smallerindiana.com - this is an Indiana only professional networking site. Lots of GREAT contacts there- I'm sure there is an accountant on there- just don't know who. You will also find many self-employed there- and it might be helpful to know and support others on the same journey.
Also- get in touch with Kirksgirl on here - she and a partner are involved in several outlets for women in business and self employed women specifically. Wowpreneuers and eWomenNetwork to name a couple.
