Have you always lived in the STL area?

My family has always lived in STL, DH's is scattered all over.  I know we have a few girls on this board that have moved here from other areas.  Were you born here, or did you move here?

Re: Have you always lived in the STL area?

  • I was born and raised here. I've lived here my whole life, minus 5 years in Columbia and two summers I worked for the National Park Service in Colorado and North Carolina.

  • I was born in Saint Louis because both of my parents families are from Saint Louis, but I move all over the area (south, west, mid counties). Some of my family has since moved away, but everyone always comes back each holiday.  I've lived here for my entire life minus the college years...because DH's family has been in Saint Charles for like SEVERAL generations, so basically that's why we've decided to stay here in Saint Charles, to be close to his family :)
  • I've always lived in O'Fallon. I love it there and hope to stay there forever.

  • Nope. Born in Washington, DC, reared in south Mississippi, undergrad in Nashville, worked in Memphis, more work & grad school in Boston.

Moved to STL @ age 27. Met DH 3 months later and that was that.

FWIW, I've met VERY few people here who aren't from here.

  • No way. ?I have lived all over for real, not just the county. ?I've been in St. Louis for about seven years. ?DH has lived here his whole life, so I suspect I am stuck here for the rest of mine. ?IME, there are not many transplants to St. Louis, and, I think, even fewer who are happy about it.
  • I have ping ponged between rural Indiana to STL to Indianapolis and back to STL. But here to stay now.
  • Born in Central Illinois, grew up in Eastern Illinois near Terre Haute, IN, moved to Lebanon, IL for college and now here I am in STL.
  • I was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico (immediately South of San Diego), lived there all my life until DH and I got married and I moved to San Diego with him (March 2006).  DH was born in Omaha, NE because his dad was in the AF stationed there, they moved to San Diego when he was 7...  So we both lived in the Southern California area (and weather) all/most of our lives...

Then we moved here this summer, I moved on August 2, and he got here 4 weeks later.  I still miss San Diego like crazy, but only for my friends, I'm actually getting used to the weather here Smile

  • Born & raised here.  Went to college in state, but not in St. Louis.  Live out of state for about 5 or 6 years - split between AL, TN & MS.  DH got a promotion when I was 6 months pg that meant we had to move back.  We weren't looking to move back, but that's just the way it worked out.

DH's extended family is from the area but he grew up in northern Minnesota.  Both of our siblings (and DH's parents) are scattered all over the US.

I have to agree that the majority of people in STL are from STL and would never consider living anywhere else.

  • Yep, have always lived here.  I like it here, but have always dreamed of moving away, but just too chicken to do it since all of my friends and family are here.
  • I was born and raised in O'Fallon, MO.  I went to college in West County and now live in St. Charles.  After college I couldn't afford to not live with my parents for a year, and luckily I got a job in St. Charles.  I met DH that year.  He's from Troy, IL.  He also got a job over here.  I am sure his job will take us out of the state in the next few years, but I know we will end up back here.
  • I grew up on the east coast and moved to STL for colleg. Spent most of the last 12 years in St. Louis, but have relocated twice for my job. I love the midwest. My husband is from STL and most of his family is there.
