Fitness center suggestions?

Hi ladies!

I'm finally getting motivated to become more healthy and add fitness back into my life! The only problem is that I'm not sure where to start. I'm going to be visiting a few gyms this week (hopefully they won't overdo it with high-pressure sales - ugh!) but I would love to hear some personal opinions. I live in Fishers, so would prefer something on the northside of Indianapolis.

Of course price is a factor and also what a membership includes. I would love to get into some kind of class - yoga, group training, etc (I think having a teacher and a set time would hold me more accountable).

If you ladies have any suggestions - or warnings about what to avoid - I would love to hear! Thanks in advance.

Re: Fitness center suggestions?

  • First of all.. remember they are not selling fitness they are selling you a membership they hope you will never use. That said, go as cheap as possible. I have heard wonderful things about LA Fitness from 5 people who are members and all love it. I am putting it off since I have a "gym" at my apartment complex and office and I'm doing a mini marathon training program. Anyway, they have a pool so when the time is right I am there!!! :-) Just my 2 cents.
  • I have belonged to Lifetime Fitness for over a year and really like it. It has everything I could ever want/need. DH used to belong and never went so I dropped his membership and no one pressured us to keep him on. I can't remember what the joining fee was (maybe 100 or 200) and the monthly fee is 49.95. I like that they have the extra fun stuff and the locker room is really nice. I also feel really comfortable there (people of all ages and shapes).
  • I live in Fishers and used to be a member at Push Fitness for Woman (women only) and I thought it was really nice.  It was $50 a month, if you signed up for a year.  I have since not renewed because I would like to go somewhere that DH can go to as well.  We will be checking out LifeStyle Fitness shortly.  It is located behind Target at 116th & 69.
