Pittsburgh, PA

Good morning everyone! My 1 yr wedding anniversary is coming up, and my H and I were thinking about a weekend in Pittsburgh.  It's relatively close and we've done a couple day trips... But this time we want to stay a night or two... does anyone have any recommendations of a nice place to stay, close to downtown nightlife? (and/or anything we should do while we're there?) Thanks in advance! :)

Re: Pittsburgh, PA

  • I believe there is the Warhol Museum (or whatever it is called) that is in that area.

If you like modern art, be sure to see it.
  • The Botanical gardens are really nice.

There are several bed and breakfasts in a walkable area of the city (an area that has more nightlife than most):

There is also one across the street from Mansions on Fifth, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called to get a website.

Anyway, I would say that our best thing here is the national aviary.  It's unlike a zoo, in that it's clearly the birds' home, and you're just visiting.  They can interact with you if they want, and they usually do.  And if you pay extra and make a reservation, you can sit on the bank of the waterfowl pond and let the flamingos preen you.

  • Hello, I recently moved to Florida after living in Pgh all of my life. I love it! If you want to stay downtown, I recommend the Omni William Penn hotel if you want to spring (think, maybe $180/night?) for something nicer, but I would actually recommend staying at the Sheraton in Station Square because the views are beautiful and it's walking distance to a fun street of bars, restaurants, and some shopping.

My favorite parts of Pittsburgh during the day are Walnut Street in Shadyside, Phipps Conservatory & Schenley Park, and the Strip district shops and restaurants. You could also check out the Warhol museum and the Carnegie Museum of natural history and art which are both great.

For night time entertainment, Shadyside has a more upscale bar scene, but Carson Street is young and fun. Either of those streets are packed with MANY great restaurants. You could also check out the Waterfront in Homestead.

Hope that helps! I do so miss the 'burgh!
  • Thanks for all the great ideas!
