  • Hi! Of course you can join! I live about 20 mins from Salisbury :) How long ago did you move here? Tell us about yourself!

  • We moved here last Saturday from outside Philly (KOP). DH and I both grew up outside of DC, in fact if you draw a line due west from Salisbury I'd hit my hometown. We've been married for almost 7 years and have lived in NYC, outside of New Orleans, Philly and now here. We have a 3 year old son, who is not handling the move well, 2 dogs and a cat.

Uh-oh! Sorry to hear that! Hopefully he will get used to it sooner rather than later!  Let me know if you have any questions about the area.

  • I have a ton of questions. I need a family doctor, preferably one who believes there is a place in mainstream medicine for homeopathy. I also need a vet for my special needs dog. Maybe I should give some of her anxiety meds to my son, kidding obviously.
Also anyone ever do a cow share around here?

  • I do a cow share with my IL's but I'm upstate. I don't know where you could do that's.

You guys have moved a lot! Does one of you work for a company that moves you around or do you guys just like the adventure?

My boss sees a vet in Seaford that seems like he specializes in special needs.  His dog has arthritis and gets all kinds of special treatments (laser therapy, physical therapy etc.)  It would be a 30-40 minute drive for you, I can get you the info if you are willing to drive that distance, but you might be able to find something closer.

I can't rec a doctor because mine is in Lewes and I don't think he's even accepting new patients.

And as far as a cow share I would not be surprised at all if you could find one around here, it's the country!  Maybe check the classifieds on WBOC.com; thegiude.com and then craigslist.  I work in agriculture so I will keep my ears open.

  • I thought being so rural we would find a cow share easily :( I can do one with my Philly friends, but I was hoping for more local.

    Me too!!  And hello!

  • Hi welcome! I used to lurk on the Philly board before this one kicked back up again so I saw that you were heading down our way and was hoping you would come play with us!

You have had a lot going on these past few months! With "the dads" and now moving your entire family? Thats way more than I could handle right now. How are you feeling?

We have had a lot going on. We're all pretty good, just trying to figure this all out. I'm 6 weeks post partum and still look 3-4 months pregnant, which didn't happen with my son, so that's challenging mentally. I seriously have never been more excited for school to start,

  • Woman! You just incubated a second child! For someone else!! Give yourself a good break for that one because you deserve it more than anyone else. I have always figured, you show quicker with your second, lose slower with your second. Plus you are only just now 6 weeks pp. You will get there!

  • @mzovoce you were a surrogate? Do you feel comfortable telling us more about that? I find it very interesting.

I was a gestational surrogate for a family, gave birth a few weeks ago, and am an open book. Ask away.

  • I can now (without people thinking Im too weird) finally tell you how amazing I think you are for doing this for someone. You have given that family such a wonderful gift.
  • @mzovoce That is amazing!!!

@mzovoce That's awesome! I would seriously consider doing that. I don't know if H would go for it unless it was a friend bc I haven't had the most pleasant pregnancies, but I'd totally do it for a friend or family member. I just had my second baby 5 weeks ago and I feel ya on the body thing! I am doing weight watchers and breast feeding and it's working, but ugh..i just want my clothes to fit!

How did it come about? Did you know the parents before-hand or go through a company a la Baby Mama?

I had wanted to be a surrogate years before we had our son, but you can't do it until you've had a child. On his first birthday I signed up. I had to wait a few months until he was done nursing, I didn't know when that would be, but he self weaned at 16 months. I went through the same company a friend had used as an egg donor. I know it's more expensive for the parents, but the protection for all involved was important to me, especially my first go round. I met the dads two years ago this November! It seems like forever ago. I didn't know them in advance, but we definitely became close. I learned so much about myself and my inter personal skills through this process. I'm hoping to do it again. I won't be eligible till November, so we'll see......

Can I ask... and you can not answer...did you get paid? and if so, how much? I've always wondered about that.
  • I did get paid, I'd prefer not to say how much because its a scale, I'm older and only have one child and a csection. I was told all of these are taken into account. It was not enough to live on, but enough to buy a small modest car.
