Non-clicky Poll: Food at Wedding Reception

Just out of curiosity and to get some life back into this board:

1) What kind of food/drinks did you have for your wedding/reception?
2) Did you pick the menu alone or did DH/other help?
3) Did anything get screwed up?
4) Would you change anything about the food/drinks?

Re: Non-clicky Poll: Food at Wedding Reception

  • 1) What kind of food/drinks did you have for your wedding/reception?
We had an open bar. Actually there were two bars, one on either side of the room.  For cocktail hour we had cheese platters, veggie platters and cheese pizza squares (I can't remember if there was anything else- I never actually got to see our cocktail hour as we were in the receiving line the whole time).

For dinner we had a buffet. There were two buffets, one for each side of the room and the buffets had servers.  We had chicken marsala, pork chops, pasta, red skin potatoes, mixed veggies. Salads and rolls were served at the tables.

We had an Italian dessert bar for dessert, and after we cut the cake we had it packed up to go home with the guests.  The cake was almond with raspberry filling.

    2) Did you pick the menu alone or did DH/other help?
I pretty much picked the menu, but with H's input, as well as my mom's.

    3) Did anything get screwed up?
    Nope!

    4) Would you change anything about the food/drinks?
    Nope!

    1) What kind of food/drinks did you have for your wedding/reception? We had a cocktail hour with stationary cheese, fruits & veggies then we had passed mini beef wellington, shrimp cocktail, veggie spring rolls & bacon wrapped scallops. We also had a signature cocktail called "The Bloody Smurf." It's a drink from our favorite college bar, H's favorite cocktail, and incredibly delicious!
We had a seated dinner. Our salad had cranberries, some kind of nut and candied oranges. Then we had a tartlet with zucchini & goat cheese. And our main course was either BBQ Thai salmon, chicken stuffed with apples & andouille both served with roasted fingerling potatoes and asparagus or a veggie pasta dish.
Our wedding cake had two flavors: chocolate with cookies & cream filling or vanilla with fresh raspberry filling.
    2) Did you pick the menu alone or did DH/other help? H & I picked the menu and then our parents joined us at the tasting. He had a good amount of input, the Bloody Smurf & shrimp cocktail were all him.
    3) Did anything get screwed up? We had two gluten-free cupcakes made for guests with allergies and H's little cousin accidentally got one, she thought it was weird that her cupcake had rice in it!
    4) Would you change anything about the food/drinks?Nope! Everything was really good and we were very mindful about accommodating guests with dietary restrictions. The staff was also great about making sure we ate, which was awesome because I was STARVING!!

  • 1) What kind of food/drinks did you have for your wedding/reception? -- My wedding was a surprise held during a family reunion.  We had ham, macaroni & cheese, green salad, fried chicken, sweet potato puffs, homemade yeast rolls, and coconut cake.

    2) Did you pick the menu alone or did DH/other help? -- The menu was set by the family reunion planners; the only thing we contributed was a King Cake for our "wedding cake"

    3) Did anything get screwed up? -- Unbeknownst at the time, the host was suffering from a brain tumor, so it was less organized than we anticipated

    4) Would you change anything about the food/drinks? -- I would have asked for more rolls, but that's just because I love homemade fresh from the oven breads.

  • 1) What kind of food/drinks did you have for your wedding/reception?  We a buffet of appetizers (shrimp cocktail, cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, fruit bowl), then a sit down dinner with salads, rolls,  steak and chicken, potatoes, green beans, or a vegetarian pasta dish.  We had an open bar which was actually pretty cheap because our reception was at an air force base so drinks were minimum prices.
    2) Did you pick the menu alone or did DH/other help? DH and my parents helped pick out the menu
    3) Did anything get screwed up? Yes.  Overall everything was fine but the appetizers were supposed to be in this beautiful display that I paid extra for but when we got there they were just set out buffet style.  When I questioned it they wouldn't refund for the display price either which pissed me off.
    4) Would you change anything about the food/drinks?  Other then having the display, I enjoyed our meals and the drinks were awesome!

  • Sorry it has taken me a few days to answer my own poll!!

    1) What kind of food/drinks did you have for your wedding/reception?
Breakfast!! We had a 2 line buffet that consisted of scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage links, smoked salmon, grits +/- cheese, and corned beef hash (for the Yankees -DH's family is from MI). We had 2 custom omelette stations (the staff had ingredients set out, and the guests could pick which ones they wanted), and a waffle/pancake station. We also had a coffee bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic mix-ins (Bailey's, Frangelico, Hazelnut, Vanilla, etc...) and cinnamon rolls at the end of the coffee bar.

    2) Did you pick the menu alone or did DH/other help?
DH helped a lot. My dad doesn't eat meat, so we started thinking about the normal dinner foods (steak, chicken, fish, etc...), but it was less expensive to do breakfast, and it was very "us", so we went with it.

    3) Did anything get screwed up?
DH doesn't like cake, so we had paid for the caterer to make bread pudding to be set out on the cake table. Well, the serving dish was on the table, complete with serving bowls, but there was no bread pudding actually in the serving dish :(

    4) Would you change anything about the food/drinks?
I would have eaten more of it :) DH and I went first, but that is the only food we got to eat the whole night. I had even asked my mother to pack us a to-go bag with our food, but she didn't. So we went to bed hungry. Our food was amazing, but I would have liked the bread pudding to have been on the cake table.

Cake: Our cake was a 5 tier (we invited 450 people to our wedding/reception). Layers 1, 3, and 5 were yellow cake with a peach jelly filling, the other 2 layers were a chocolate cake with Kahlua buttercream filling all covered on the outside with a cream cheese buttercream icing. Our cake was so good!!

  • 1. We had a bar with beer, wine, coolers and champagne. No mixed drinks. Saved us quite a bit of money and everyone seemed happy. Food was bbq New York strip loin, then a buffet of Mac and cheese, coleslaw, Caesar and garden salad, cornbread and double stuffed potatoes. Dessert was carrot cake, then our wedding cake about midnight which was raspberry truffle. 2. DH and I picked together. 3. Wedding cake was put on display in a sun beam. Started slowly sliding to the side. I ran up and saved it lol, even with my dress on I wasn't letting it fall. They put it in the walkin and it was fine. 4. Wouldn't change a thing, was the best meal I have ever had lol!
