Man Cave Help

DH & I have an extra bedroom that is currently serving as our store-all room. We have plans to turn it into a man cave for H with TV, video games, ping pong table and so on. We already have all the stuff to put in there (TV, Ping Pong etc.) but I don't know how else to decorate the space. I know that it should really be the hubs room but if I left it up to him it would be bright red and nothing else. I still want it to have a nice, not so man-cavish look to it because out spare bed is in there so if anyone ever stays here, they will be sleeping in the man cave. I thought about going with a "Home is Where the Hand Is" feel because we live in Northern Michigan & my brother has recently started a photography business photographing our great state. I wanted to get a bunch of his pictures to cover one whole wall but I don't know if I really like that idea.

Any suggestions on paint colors & decorating ideas that won't be too girly and still help convey that man cave vibe?

Re: Man Cave Help

  • I'd paint one wall red and one another more neutral color... Grey? I like the photography idea. Places around town? There's this restaurant chain around here that in each restaurant in each city the decor is a little different because they go out around that town And take pictures for the art. They're really neat like artsy pictures. Close ups of various signs, like just a word or something, A neat piece of graffiti etc. You could do that with some of your hubby's favorite places? I've tried it and failed miserably, in not artistic enough, but if you know someone who is, it could be great.

  • Maybe you could tone down the red and do something like a Burgundy or other deep red on one wall. The other walls a gray, maybe Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. Paint trim white. I would do the photographs and use lots of different sizes for variation, and put them on the accent wall.
  • I really like the photography idea since it's your guest room and it's not a super girly way of decorating. Also, if you do one wall and don't like it, you can easily change it!
As far as the color, I like @heightdeprived's suggestion of one red wall and the rest grey, especially since you're Red Wings fans!

  • My husband took over his basement with old cool bar signs, its still a work in progress and we have a light green color to brighten it up. I like your idea of photos

  • Love the photography idea you could even do like street aigns or pictures of them to make it a little more manly. I would think street signs are very man cave like or sports pictures of certain fields. I also think a deep red or grey would be a good color for the wall.
