As most of you know I photo babies for a living. I hear all shorts of names. Some are wonderful and others are special...

What is / are the most unique names you've heard?

Why did you pick the name you picked for your LO?

Is it an uncommon or common name?

Is it a common name with a strange spelling?

I work for a mortgage company, so I see a lot of names pass by.  I think the craziest one I've seen is La-a.  Any guess on how to say it?   Ladasha.  Interesting.

DH & I have always loved the name Liam, for years.  But now it's one of the most popular names.  I don't know if I should give them a name that's so popular now though..

Besides the popularity, when I was pregnant DH didn't want to discuss names.  But I would research, and I found that the meaning of Liam is strong-willed warrior.  I told him that if baby B survives (and a boy), we would name him Liam.. since he was a little fighter.  Since they were boys, I'm not sure if I could name a future boy Liam, because in my heart that was baby B's name.

For a girl, I like the name Addison.  But I have a feeling DH and I are going to struggle when it comes to names..

KY a lot of people struggle on picking out a name. It's not an easy task. I have come across plenty of moms (including my own) that couldn't decide on a name until the last possible minute. 

DH and I picked out names for a boy and girl years before we were married. I think we must have been about 20 or so when we did. And since we've been trying we still want those same names. Maybe the name thing was easy for us because we both want to pass along family names. Although I can see us having a problem if we have more then one of the same gender we would have a hard time. We only ever decided on 1 boy name and 1 girl name.

The only name that really grabbed my attention was for a baby boy born into a family full of girls. King James Leonidas. King James is the first name. Leonidas the middle.

We had a few picked out but nothing we were dead set on. I think I was so tired and ready to go home that I let H have his pick so long as my pick was in the middle.

Our son's first name is Liam, we both loved the name but I secretly know it's due to H's obsession with everything Oasis (I vetoed the name Noel).

My pick was Matthew due to my obsession with the singer Matthew Good. We aren't having anymore kids so I had to squeeze it in now or never.

We also wanted to use my dad's middle name, James, bc he is the last male in the family and our last name will not be carried on.

So, our son has two middle names, making him Liam James Matthew Lastname.

Furthermore, if for some reason he dislikes his name he can opt to go by one of his middle names (my H does this).

We chose the name right before it got super popular so it's kind of annoying, but I don't hear it too much around here so I can hope that it's regional popularity.

Looking back we sometimes think we could have gone with Jack, and sometimes I wish I would have bc MIL hated it hahaa. But we are overall happy with our choice.

Oh, and the most ridiculous I've heard is three brothers, Mikyn, Masyn and Maxtyn. Wtf.

I'll give a blanket answer based on our current situation.  We have a list of names we like and will decide on the official name once the baby is here (and we're team green so we have lists for boys and girls).  All the names on the list are not uncommon names.  But it's not like they're new "popular"n names, they are common because they've been around hundreds if not thousands of years.  No weird spellings for us.  Not our style.

Most unique name... PrestlyElvis (all one name... first name) Eugene was the middle name last name was Johnson...

I also have run across the La-A name.. it's quite common in one particular cultureAlaric is the other one that I have found to be "unique" 
Why did you pick the name you picked for your LO? 
We don't have any LOs just yet, but we know that boy will be Collin Michael and girl will be Audrey (most likely birthmom's name for middle name) We chose both Collin and Audrey before we were married and have loved them so much! My name begins with A and the hubs really wanted to make sure I was honored in the name as well.. my initials are ALI and so we thought about Ali but we prefer Audrey... Collin Michael was chosen by me. Michael because I have a nephew who is Michael, he was diagnosed with autism at 2 years old and I have always had a strong connection to this little guy. He's a fighter and with his ASD he doesn't let anything stand in his way! The hub's middle name is Michael named after his own father whose name is Michael. Collin Michael has a lot of meaning behind it for us! 
Is it an uncommon or common name?

The names we have chosen are common. Audrey is becoming more and more popular but a lot of people are electing for Aubrey but the hubs prefers the old traditional name.

Was it a tough decision to make? 

Not really - it was an evening discussion and since then we have known what our babies will be called!

Is anyone unhappy about the choice? 

We don't tell anyone. When MIL was pregnant with hubs she told her mom and her MIL about the choice in name for him and they both freaked out about it because it was too "Jewish"  (they are a catholic family). Before we were married she told us not to tell anyone and just to know that people won't object once baby is here!

Oh man, no kids yet but we'll be trying soon, I suppose. I wanted the name Jaci for a girl for a long time. Now it seems juvenile. So I like some old-school names: Matilda, Celia, Esther, Stella and Mabel.
No idea for a boy. But I'm getting sick of the different --den names: Aiden, Caden, Brayden, etc. Especially when they're spelled with a --yn: Cadyn, etc. Maybe it's just regional, I don't know. I work with a woman who is obsessed with Iowa Hawkeye sports and she's named her two boys Gable (after former Iowa wrestling coach Dan Gable) and Hayden (after former Iowa football coach Hayden Fry. Good grief. Also I have a friend who named her boy Bridger and I don't think that's a name.
It's all about personal preference ... hope I didn't offend anybody!

I can't think of any names that I thought were unique.

DH and I have talked about baby names before.  He definitely wants to name a boy John Middle name.  His Dad's name is John Guy Last name.  Guy was his dad's dad name.  My husband is named John Paul last name.  At first DH wanted to name our boy John Guy.  I'll let him have the John, but he's not going to have the same name as DH's dad.  Then it would technically a Jr (but skipped a geneation I guess??  I like John Michael, John David.  What are other good middle names for John??

For a girl, I want the middle name to be Lee.  I would like her to be named after my grandfather, who I was very close to.  My mom gave me that idea.  I was talking to her about how I wished we had a good family name to name a girl.  For girl names, I like Abigail, Madison, Madilyn, Elizbeth, and many more!.  I'll have no problem problem picking out a girls name!

I'm sure we'll tell our family what name we chose (if we're able to find out the gender of the child!)  I'm extremely close to my family, and I'm sure my sister and mom would "bug" me about a name, so there's no way I'm keeping it a secret.  haha

We have no current little ones, but we've talked about names quite a bit. We have a boy and girl name picked out - Henry James and Julia. Still trying to find a middle name I like with Julia.

Other names we liked are Lucas, Ella, Lily, and Claire, but all those names are so popular right now. We both have fairly common names (Heather and Nick), so we're trying to avoid our kids having the same name as 3 other people in the class like we did.

One of our nieces is Julia Rose. Julia Anne and Julia Elizabeth I've heard before.

I've run into a few weird names as a teacher. Only 1 with a hyphen so far.

Mia used to be one of my favorite names until this past year lol. H and I had a talk about baby names once and decided if we had a girl it'd be named Caroline. Neither of us had a boy name we really loved. We don't plan on having kids anytime soon though.

I'm an early childhood teacher, so I've heard a lot of different names and seen some crazy spellings. I currently have a little boy in my class named Calix Dior, which is one of the more unusual ones I've seen.

We have one girl name and one boy name for when the time comes. Our girl name is McKenna Lee and our boy name is Joshua David Michael (two middle names, one named after him and one named after me).

We picked Michael James because its Hs middle name and his brothers first name. But I also have a grandpa and had an uncle named James too so it's in both families. Our girl name was Kennedy Grace. We didn't tell anyone ahead of time because I didn't care about anyone else's opinion. Good thing because my grandma gave me the most horrible look when she asked me what the girl name was. In weird names we have triplets that come to my store that are Morvante Melvonte and Micherieamore.

I hate it when people do that!  I would never tell someone I didn't like the name they chose.

I've come across family members who HATE the name mom gave to baby. I mean hate and are vocal about it. It's quite uncomfortable.

We picked Madison Renee for the baby. Madison is from where the Chicago Blackhawks Play (well they play at the United Center, but it's on Madison Street) and Renee for my sister. 

My dad is trying to get us to change the middle name (I don't get why, it's his daughters name), to another name that EVERYONE has. sigh.
