help me remodel my bathroom

DH & I are pretty sure we are going to remodel our main bath.  (we have a 1.5ba house)

Here is picture of the current layout.

And this is what we are going to change it to.

(hopefully those pics work)

We are going to cut that full wall in about a foot or so to open it up.  Widen the sink area and flip the toilet to the other wall and build a half wall.

So my questions to you...

We have about 69.5 inches of space for the new sink.  I'm going back and forth with what I want to do.

2 - 30" sinks

a 60" double sink

a 60" single sink

a custom double vanity to cover the full space

a custom single sink vanity, maybe with hutches on side to cover the full space

There are too many choices out there!

The first thing I need to figure out is one or two sinks.  I would love double sinks, esp because it's our only full bath.  But, if that limits my counter space, would it be better with just one and have extra storage?

So what would your choice of vanity be?

Re: help me remodel my bathroom

  • We just went from one sink to 2 and it is the best thing ever.  DH likes to get water all over the place when he shaves.  Of course, I made a joke about it and now that he has his own sink he makes a big performance out of wiping down his sink while saying how messy it is  8-|

BUT I do love having my own.  And we have more storage under the sink, which helps.

  • I would absolutely go with the two sinks. H and I just moved from a rental house with one lone sink in the master to our new house with our own sinks. I will never go back to sharing a sink again. I love H but he is a total slob and I can't stand the water, shaving cream, tooth paste etc etc everywhere. Plus we are up and getting ready at the same time and it was always awful with just one sink.

  • Double sink, for sure. We also recently went from a single sink in our apartment to double when we bought our house. It's been wonderful not sharing a sink. Besides not having his stubble clippings in my sink, being able to brush our teeth at the same time in the morning is a huge bonus.

And if you're worried about counter space, I haven't felt much difference at all. Especially since you'll have more storage underneath to work with.

  • Double sinks for sure!  I loves ours for all the reasons already mentioned.  I have plenty of storage space under the sinks as well.  I don't ever want to go back to a single sink!

  • Double sinks! We have tons of storage with a cabinet under each sink and 3 drawers in the middle. We actually have quite a bit of empty space and extra room down there, which is surprising because I have a makeup/hair product/lotion/perfume purchasing problem!
  • Double sinks. I'm going to miss our sink situation when we move. We actually had a vanity/sink area in our bedroom that I claimed and then H used the bathroom sink since he has a lot less to do in front of the mirror.
  • Double!!

I pinned this awhile back.  I love the first pic that has the storage cabinet between the sinks (not a fan of the lamps in the mirror, though).

    Good luck with the remodel!

This is ours exactly.  I love it!

  • I read this as 2 sinks no matter what. But if i read it wrong you must have a sink for you and one for him.

What would you do with those extra 9.5 inches left over? Is there shelving that thin? Maybe you can make some if that extra space would bother you.
If the space doesn't bother you I personally have one long 60" counter centered. Seems like you could potentially get bigger or more cabinet/ drawer space that way.
