Your loved one is near death and in the hospital. You receive a phone call from the hospital staff informing you that your loved one has taken a turn for the worst and that you need to come to the hospital immediately.
You drop everything and rush to the hospital. Upon your arrival, you are ushered into a room where a doctor and a chaplain are waiting for you. The doctor informs you that your loved one has died. You ask how it happened so suddenly and explained it took you less than an hour to reach the hospital. The doctor explains to you that your loved one was already dead when the call was made and that whenever possible, the hospital staff feels it's better to deliver such grave news in person. You feel:
A.) grateful that you were not told of your loved one's death over the phone.
B.) upset that you were led to believe that your loved one was alive when he was already dead.
