So, I have decided that I am going to go for Pharmacy Tech. CVS and Walgreens both have trainee programs where I would be prepared to take the certification exam and get registered in this state. Neither one pay all that great, but if I can get through the program, I'd like to eventually get into a hospital (they make more money). So, I am trying to write a CV letter and would like some input, because I am at a bit of a loss. Please let me know what to change/add.

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in the Pharmacy Technician Trainee position at CVS, with the anticipation that it will be a challenging and rewarding opportunity where I will be able to contribute to your immediate and long term goals. I am looking for a major career change in which I would become a certified and registered Pharmacy Technician.

I have excellent communication skills with both team members and customers. As a long time retail associate, I have experience with customer servcie, cash handling, credit card transactions, merchandising, and stocking. I am organized and detail orientated. I pride myself on excellent customer service to create a pleasant experience for the guest. I learn and adapt quickly to a fast paced environment, and have the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with team members.

I look forward to hearing from you to discuss the possibilities and opportunities available, and am excited to begin a rewarding career as a Pharmacy Technician with CVS/Caremark.

Thank You,

**I want to make sure it grabs their attention, but I am not sure what else to add to it. I also don't want it to be too long or wordy. Thanks ladies!

  • I think it sounds good! I don't really have any input to change it :)

  • I think it sounds great and I don't really have any advice to change it. The only thing I would maybe add is if you have had a job that involved any kind of medical field.
  • Hmmm....I don't. Took biology, a&p, and intro to chemistry. Perhaps I'll mention that. Thanks ladies.
  • My only suggestion is to find out the name of the hiring manager and address it to them personally.

CVS is a great company to work for (and based out of RI). I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

  • I think this looks good- good luck to you!  I am a pharmacist working for Walgreens currently, so if you have any specific questions along the way I can try to help.  I have friends that work for pretty much all the major chains so am somewhat familiar with them all.  I will say that I was told in my last interview with CVS that they can't hold on to their techs- makes me think they don't treat them all that well.  That was one of the reasons I went with Walgreens over CVS.  That being said, I imagine all the chains are somewhat similar.   I've worked retail and hospital, and there are plusses and minuses to both.  I hope it all works out for you, pharmacy is a pretty decent field to get into!

  • Thanks ladies. My boss's son is a manager at CVS, so I'm hoping to get a call soon. I'd like to get into a hospital at some point once I have experience and certification.

Gustie....I was wondering if you were around! Do you think it would be beneficial to also take courses (certificate program) to coincide with program at CVS? I also applied at Walgreens but I have to go in to finish the application process. If you have any advice, I would love to hear it!
  • @vineyard12:  I am not sure if CVS will pay for your certificate program?  Walgreens will pay for you to become certified, so if that were the case with CVS, I would say just wait and let them pay for it.  Plus, that way it would allow you to figure out if you actually like it before you put money into a career change.  If possible, I would try to talk to some of the pharmacy managers in the stores you'd ideally like to be in though and see if they have a strong preference for certification.  Most RXM's I've worked with don't necessarily care if you are certified, but just that you're willing to work towards it and willing to work hard to learn the job.  You do have to be licensed as a technician in your state, so if you're serious about finding a job I'd apply for that ASAP!  You should be able to google your state's board of pharmacy website for more information on that process.  I know we would hire you without certification, but not if you weren't licensed.  I hope this helps a little, if you need further thoughts let me know!
