Paleo

I know there are several ladies here who follow the paleo diet plan. Talk to me about it like I'm 5.
Why did you decide to do it?
What are the benefits.
Any cons?
Is it easy to follow?

Rich and I are trying to eat healthier. It's easier for me, because I've already been making smarter choices in my eating. Rich is having a hard time with it.
We have agreed to start making smoothies for breakfast now, and I'm really excited about it. It's something eAsy to prepare the day before.

Thank you for your help ladies. I appreciate everything I learn from you! <3

Re: Paleo

  • I don't do it because I eat a lot of bread... But basically, eat how the cavemen ate. If its processed, don't do it. If it can be hunted or gathered, it's good to go.

  • It just seems like one of those things that becomes unrealistic for a lifetime. My friends that have Celiac's do well with it though. Others I've seen post the pound of bacon they ate for dinner.
  • Exactly. Like its trying to be better than Atkins, but people are like mmmmm meat! Give me all of it!

  • I don't follow it strictly but in general I try to limit my processed foods and it works for me. I have been able to maintain a healthy weight for years with this mentality. I do eat bread but not that much of it.

  • I followed it strictly for 8 weeks to jump start my weight loss goals. I ended up losing about 20 lbs following it strictly and totaled a loss of about 35. I have kept it off for about 2 years. I don't follow it strictly any more, but like @LittleLady77, I try to limit processed foods and make as much from scratch as possible.

Basically, I could only eat meat, veggies, limited fruit and nuts. No artificial sweetners, no sugar, only booze that was natural (think vodka, tequila, wine)- everything was a no-no that was inside the aisles at the grocery store. I found I felt better than ever following it strictly. As Panda said- I found it very hard to follow for an extended period of time.

    Good luck!
