Nail polish

My allergist gave me a patch test last week to see if I am allergic to formaldehyde.  The patch was very negative so I can still wear nail polish!!!!  I am going to go out and buy some formaldehyde free top and base coat.  I already have a few OPI colors and OPI is formaldehyde free, so I'll be ok for now.  My mom came with me to the appointment and was talking to the doctor about what this could be.  She mentioned my addiction to chap stick.  He told me to stop using it immediately and he's seen many people get irritated by it.  I haven't worn chap stick since last Tuesday and my face is completely clear.  I am freaking out because I hate chapped lips but I have to get over it.

H and I were planning to go away this week, but couldn't find a good deal.  Saturday we were on Jet Blue getaways and found an amazing, can't pass up deal to Vegas.  We're leaving Wednesday and will be back next week.  I am so excited to get away, soak up some sun and relax with my H.  :)

Re: Nail polish

  • Yay for nail polish!!  Boo for chap stick!!  Is it the brand or is it an ingredient in it that might be causing the problem?  I used to use chap stick alot and then when I gave it up, my lips weren't as chapped as I thought they were.  I really think there is something in chap stick that makes you lips chapped.  Its a conspiracy.

You are so lucky that you get to go on a vacation!!  I hope you have a great time and win lots of money.

  • Yay for being able to wear nail polish!  I'm sure once you haven't worn chapstick for a few weeks, it won't be so bad.  Have fun on your vacay!!

  • Great news about the nail polish!

Can you try something like vaseline on your lips if they get really chapped?

Have fun in Vegas, I hope you guys have a relaxing trip!

  • That's great about the nail polish :) I think Essie is formaldehyde free too.

That stinks about the chap stick...I'm addicted too, but I'm probably just perpetuating the problem :/  What about a natural one, like Burts Bees? I don't think there's anything weird in that one that could cause irritation.

    Have fun in Vegas :)

  • Yay for nail polish! As a nail polish addict, I would be so upset if I couldnt use it every again. As for the chap stick that sucks. I live for blistex. Can you use vaseline still? That could be used instead.

  • The doctor said not to put anything on my lips for the time being.  I have been sneaking Aquafor, but only like twice a day.  He said no vaseline because that can be irritating also.

I found some blog about a girl who was allergic to chap stick.  She said it started with Burts Bees but she gets a reaction from everything she's tried.  I'm going to give this like a month, then look into something natural to use.

Thanks for the vacation well wishes!
  • I'm so jealous of your vacation!! H and I have never been to Vegas, but we're dying to go before we have kids.

I'm glad you get to wear nail polish again!! I'm back and forth on using it. haha. I love nail polish, I just hate doing it. I like to get gel polish so I don't have to mess with doing it but once a month.

I hope you figure out a way to hydrate your lips but not get the rest of your skin irritated :)

  • I use coconut oil as a moisturizer, and if I'm at home, on my lips.  Works well for me, and there aren't any additives :)  Hope you find something that works!!

Totally agree! I can't believe I forgot to mention this. Coconut oil is great for so many things. I use it for cooking, and then use whatever's left on the spoon (or whatever I scoop it out of the jar with) on my dry hands. It's a great moisturizer!

  • Good news for nail polish.

I'm a total chapstick addict too!  I think I would lose my mind.  I've used lotion before, because I just can't stand not having anything, and I was out of chapstick.  It actually worked, it's just a little weird.  Maybe you can do that?

  • I just got coconut oil to cook and use in the winter for my really dry skin!

  • I've never thought of coconut oil.  That's a great idea!  I will get some when we get back.
