Question about Marriage License

First time posting.. but I just noticed something curious on my marriage license. I have been married for over two years now. I have JUST noticed that our minister wrote the incorrect date on our license..by an entire year. The document says our license was issued in December 2010 and our minister wrote that we were married on January 8, 2010. I suppose he was stuck in the wrong year LOL. How can I go about getting this corrected and are there any potential consequences for not getting it corrected? We have been using it this way for over two years now..

Thanks in advance!

Re: Question about Marriage License

  • I would contact the office that issued the document and ask them.
  • i agree with pp. contact the office that issued your license to see if its a big deal.

  • Is the one that you have a certified copy, or just a souvenir copy? Our officiant also wrote the wrong date on our souvenir copy, but the copy filed with the state/county had the correct date. I requested a certified copy since the one I had wasn't a legal document anyway, so it all worked out. Now we have a funny story for our kids someday!

  • I would definitely call the office that issued the license. Even IF you do need to fix it, there will be a process for it. I know at one point before the wedding I noticed a mistake in our apartment address listed on our license and called about it. They said we could  fill out an amendment document that would stay with the original license if we wanted to. Ours wasn't a big deal though, because the mistake didn't alter any of the really important pieces of information. I don't mind the fact that my personal address is wrong on a public record anyway.
