Opening up a space?

My husband and I are about to move into our first place together, and I'd like some advice on decorating?
We rent and are not allowed to paint, the rooms are all carpeted in the faded off white carpet. And the rooms are pretty small. I know sometimes the right color paint can really make a room seem larger, but since we can't do that I'm not sure what else to do?
We don't have much furniture yet, just a tv stand and couch for the living room (the room I'm most concerned with ATM, the only other rooms are the bathroom, our room, and the soon-to-be-nursery).
Any suggestions?

Re: Opening up a space?

  • My husband ad I are in the same boat as you. Except we have too much furniture and need to get rid of some. But before we move in a single thing we are going to re furnish (i'm not sure if this is the right word) the wood floors. Then we are gunna paint. Bright colors open up spaces. We are also thinking a rug in the living room just to add some kind of homey feeling to our house. We always rented and we hate the plain blah feeling you get from an apartment.
We can't afford new couches so we are just going to put some nice cover's over them. What type of decor are you going for? We are doing a Cape Cod type of thing so many of our decorations we can get for cheap.
