Hi everyone.

Hi everyone,
Thought I would say hi and introduce myself. I used to post/lurk on the Knot, but think I might migrate over here at this point. My DH and I got married on June 29, and are just getting settled into married life. After several years of a long-distance-ish relationship, it is so nice just be together again in the same place. I am also loving my five-month-old job in higher education at a local community college. My DH works as a sports journalist.

Enough about me...what about you guys? How long have you guys been married? What do you all do for a living?

Re: Hi everyone.

  • Hi!  I'm new from The Knot as well.  My husband works as an industrial engineer and I work in sales.  We got married on June 22 and are also settling into married life.

    Nice to meet you!
    :)
  • Awesome! I grew up around a ton of Engineers and now work in Silicon Valley primarily with STEM students, many of whom want to be Engineers. What state are you guys in? Big city, small town? What was your wedding like?

Wow, your furbaby is huge and cute! 3/13 years...that is awesome! In total we've been together for about 5 years. for some of that time we actually worked togethr. NYPD, that is impressive! I bet he has some amazing work stories. My brother-in-law is actually wanting to get on with our local police department and go through their academy. The process to be hired is crazy difficult though. I've always had respect for cops before, but now more than ever after seeing what he has to do.

Your boy is beautiful. Yeah, it was hard on him because he didn't make the cut last time (budget issues), so I really admire him for going through the year-long application process again. He would be such a great cop too, very strong, yet compassionate and fair-minded as well.

Wow, that's so cool you guys were teenagers together. I met my Dh when I was 18 and just starting an internship with the company that ultimately gave me my first job. We were good friends for a long time because of the work thing.

  • Welcome! H and I are approaching out 1 year anny on Sept 1st. Still trying to plan a mini-getaway to celebrate. The pro is that it's Labor Day weekend so we have 3 days off! The con is that all inns and hotels up their prices due to the holiday. I guess we didn't really think that one through! :)

H is an accountant and has a few classes left to finish up his BA. I'm a lab assistant at a university.

Awesome! when will he finish? I actually work with several lab assistants in my job right now. Very cool jobs!

Tell him to just keep at it :)  It took my DH a while to get on the job too. We were def lucky to meet each other early and grow together instead of apart. I admire you for being able to work together, we would kill each other lol

It just became natural because that was how we met. In fact I actually miss that dynamic now that we work at different places.

  • Three days to our first anniversary... time flies! DH and I were high school sweethearts but since he's a couple years older than me we spent a couple years long distance while he was in college and I was finishing high school. It's been great finally getting to be together for more than just a few days/ couple weeks at a time! I'm working on my teaching degree and he's at military college getting his degree and preparing to be an officer.

Awesome! Do you guys have something fun planned? :) Sounds like you're doing the distance thing too. It is so hard sometimes, but it will be worth it when both of you finish your degrees. What subject/grade you want to teach? My sister in law got her credential two years ago and teaches 3rd grade now.

Ha! I keep eyeing our cake as well but mostly, I just want to freezer space back. It's quite a big chunk of cake. I wonder if it'll be any good??

He was supposed to finish this year but then got a good job offer so now he's going part time. Hopefully he'll be done in the Spring!

It's cool working in higher ed. Surrounded by a buncha smart people and usually good benefits :)

I wonder about our cake too! It was so good, that I'll be sad if it is inedible by next year. Lol, I did order my DH's birthday cake from the same bakery though. We get to eat that next month.

That's awesome! I'm so glad he found a job! I'm not suprised though, accountants are pretty employable.

I love working in higher education! I am currently a program coordinator for a community college STEM program. I love our students and faculty. They are all so smart and nice. I do think about going back to get my doctorate (just finished my master's) but it costs so much!

  • We are in NE Ohio.  We live in a small city called Youngstown.  It's about an hour south of Cleveland.

Our wedding was huge!  My husband is Greek and they don't believe in doing anything small.  It was a great time though.  I wouldn't have changed a thing!  What was yours like?
  • Sounds like you had an amazing wedding, cupcake! Sounds like fun! Love to see pics! Ours was fairly small...about 80 in total. It was amazing. We had a very traditional church ceremony and a reception at our favorite Italian resturant.

  • Our 3 year anniversary is coming up. We had a small lovely wedding with a donut cake. I love me some pumpkin spice donuts. It did not translate in the frozen cake thing. Luckily, the orchard we ordered them from is right down the street so we just get fresh ones every year. H is a dental lab tech and I am a nurse. Glad I will always have nice teeth :D
  • We're going out for a late dinner since DH is involved with training all day... at least he was able to get some time off! I'm hoping to teach early years (K-4), I've worked with a wide range of ages through jobs and volunteering and this is my favourite age group.

Donuts! That is brilliant! You both are in the medical field...how cool! Where did you guys get married?

I would love a quiet dinner with DH. We're actually on the road tonight to get to my parents' house for a visit, as well as to celebrate my brother's bday.

Awesome! I respect anyone who has a heart for little ones. I would love to work with high school students...that is my preferred age group.

A park in our area. They have a really nice enclosed shelter built in the 40's that is very log cabin like inside with a huge fieldstone fireplace. The location and place itself were so pretty, I didn't have to do too much at all. We've been to 3 more weddings there since ours! For the donuts I found a really cool three tier dessert stand at TJ Maxx for like $20 and stacked donuts on it. Everyone kept asking me if it was an antique and saying how pretty it was! Gotta love TJ's!

Sounds very pretty and classy! I love the 40's inspired vibe though, so I'm partial. We were the last in our friend group to get married so no weddings for a while. My brother just got engaged recently though. That will be our next one.

That's awesome about your TJ Maxx stand. Lol you should see if you can sell the idea to their ad ppl and make money off it. ;)
