QOD 8/22

What did you like best about your hometown?

Re: QOD 8/22

  • Home is where ya make it, so I'm going to answer this question about where I'm living now.

The thing I like about it is also what I hate haha the size. It's only about 15000 people. Kinda nice. Decent sense of community, you can get anywhere in 5 minutes, 10 at the most. But at the same time, our shopping sucks and we don't have a decent movie theatre!

  • I am still in my hometown and currently screaming to get out so I put this up to try to remember why I bought the house there. I like that we close to everything, beach, mountains and city are all from 20mins - 2hrs away. We are also super close to the Philly airport which is great if we had money to go anywhere hah!

my home town a small city in WI of 3,500 some people so pretty small (my H is an urban planner and he says its tech. not a city lol he is goofy all technical). Well there really isn't anything there besides the Fox river and a few parks. 8 min away is Oshkosh where all the shopping is. But i guess my fav. thing about my home town was just the small parks by the river. Plus all my family lives there too. Other wise there isn't much that I like about my hometown. Just small and really boring not much to do.

I like where I live now we are close to a small mall to go shopping and food place to eat and the beach is only an hour and half away. Kissimmee isn't really where H & I want to live forever and have a family hoping after or 13 month lease is up we will move to Celebration closer to H's work.

That's why my H and I don't want to buy a house unless that where we are 100% sure we want to live for the rest of our lives. They are hard to get out of. He says once you buy a house you are kinda stuck if you want to move. I would kinda like a house eventually tho because then you can do what ever you want.

  • My hometown is in RI. I love that everything is so close, especially the beach! The ocean is definitely what I miss the most. What I don't miss is the traffic! RI has gotten really congested, and there is almost no traffic where we live now!

  • I like our central location. 2.5 hours to NYC or Philly. Airports are 10 min or 1 hour away. And there is an amazing close knit community here, ppl go out of the way to help one another out.

  • I liked being close to NYC and beaches. And there was always something to do in the area.

I also love how familiar everything is when I visit... it's comforting to go back to the place where you grew up and made memories with family & friends.

  • I grew up in Cleveland so I really love that I was close to EVERYTHING! I hated the crime issues and the possibility of getting robbed everywhere you went... I am still overly cautious.

I like where we live now because it is smaller, mostly quieter, and still close to pretty much everything,

Yes, yes we do. LOL you are welcome to come visit and eat pizza anytime. The house we are selling is literally across the street from a great pizza place. The dining room door faces the front door.

The town I grew up in seems to have gotten bigger since I left, about 10 years ago. Things change, but seem to stay the same all at once! The area I grew up in in NH was a few miles out of town and was very country like. But then developments went in and the area seemed to grow. When my parents bought the house, there was very little out there. The area is really starting to look its age with house are worn down (orginal houses like my parents house were built 40 years ago). It doesn't feel the same to me anymore. However, growing up, we were 45 minutes from the mountains/lakes, and 30 minutes from the beach, and just over an hour from Boston, and a few minutes from Maine.

Where I am now, on the "south coast" of Mass, we are 30 minutes (without traffic!) to Boston and 40 minutes from the Cape, and an hour to the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. We live in a college town, but it's pretty quiet and there isn't much to do. Downtown is cute, and we have a breakfast place we go to every Sunday morning. It's a nice town with good schools and location. I never wanted to live in Mass, but it's where we are and we're where we are going to raise our family.

  • I grew up about 10 minutes from Lake Michigan, and we have some beautiful beaches in my hometown.  I didn't appreciate them as much when I was younger.  After moving away from the beaches you really start to miss them.  I love my hometown in the summer months.  Almost every weekend of the summer there is some sort of festival.  My hometown is a great place in the summer.  It is also fun in the winter if you are into winter sports (i.e. cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and sledding).

I live in the country now.  There are a lot of small lakes here, but they are nothing compared to Lake Michigan.  My husband loves living in the country and feels at home in the country since he is from Iowa.  I don't mind the country, but I could do with out some of the stuff that come with it (i.e. skunks, raccoons, field mice in the garage in the winter, and snakes)

  • I love how central we are to everything - yet still tucked away on our own. We're only a few hours away from NYC, Washington, Philly, Baltimore, the beaches, etc. The older I get, the more I appreciate it!

Well we are currently living in my hometown...and I hate it :(   Hubby's is only 15-20 mins away...

The reason I wanted to come back was mainly family...but now that most of my grandparents are gone...the family left is ones who can travel or wont be as upset to never see us....well my side at least...the inlaws...would kill me if we moved too far away :(   I want to go back south..and hubby does too..but alas...so far job wise and money wise...it isn't happening...

Its not that this area is horrible...ok well its getting there...the mall area is DEAD.,,,the store I work at is like one of like 8 left over in the area...everything is gone...crime is horrible...not Cleveland bad..will give you that...but getting there...:(   Schools suck...housing sucks....I mean there is some nice houses...and the part we in is the better end of this city....but not perfect..but don't want to settle here know what I mean??

Where my inlaws are at is def. better area...and there are some nice houses nearby...but totally do not want to live that close lol...but its a very busy city with their mall being one of the big ones around here...

Basically..Im country outskirts kinda girl...and hubby wants city....oy lol

  • I love my hometown! After I finished undergrad and grad school H and I moved here. The city where I went to college in was my home for 6 years, yet it never felt like home. What I love best about my hometown is that my parents are here, grandparents, sister and her family, my brother and several aunts and cousins.

I am so lucky that H decided to move here because I couldn't imagine living anywhere else :)

  • My hometown and where we bought a house are 2 different cities, but, both suburbs of Vancouver and I LOVE Vancouver. I love that there's a "healthy active lifestyle", tons of parks, beaches, mountains and lakes all within a  half hours drive, I love that it's big enough to have all the shopping and theaters and amenities of large city but small enough that it doesn't like a concrete jungle. I like that it's an easy day/weekend trip to Seattle, the Okanogan, Whistler, Vancouver Island. I like that it has a moderate summer and winter...although I live for the west coast summers. I love the fairs and festivals downtown. I love that crime is relatively low for a large metro area and I feel safe to go for runs even at night (well except for the bears...but I love that we are close enough to nature to get bears walking down our back alley). I could go on and on but perhaps I will stop there.

I'd live where you live in a heartbeat! I never want to leave when we're there!
