A WWYD:

It is about mid-night and you are coming home from some late night grocery shopping.  You get to a red light at a 4-way intersection of a major road where you want to turn left.  You watch the lights change in every direction but yours, twice.  You come to the realization that the light will probably never turn green.  There is not much traffic on the road and you could make the left turn without causing an accident.  What do you do?

This actually happened to me once, with the left turn I have to make whenever I leave my apartment complex. I agonized over it for a minute and just as I was about to make the turn illegally, the light changed! I guess I manifested it or something?

I'd probably wait for the light to turn green to go straight and just do a u-turn up ahead.  This is mainly because my city has put traffic cameras at pretty much every light now and you'll get a ticket in the mail for running a red light.

If I lived out in the country where they aren't doing this, then I'd probably run the light

This actually happened last night.  The light in our direction never changed to green.  We thought about just turning on red but ended up turning right and then doing a U-turn at the next light.  If it was a back road somewhere, I think that we would have just ran it but since it was such a major road we decided not to.

In ca where I live, I would make a u turn and then a right. In ia where I'm from, I would run it!

I'd make a right and circle back. I'm an EMT and have seen people think they're in the clear in a situation like that and not be.

It depends on if it's a main intersection or a side street. It's happened a couple of times at this one particular intersection right by my work. You can't u-turn at 3 of the lights because of medians. We've just turned left and then called the city to report lights aren't cycling properly.

I've had this happen before at like 5 AM.  I took the illegal turn.  If it was a busier time I would have done the same as several PPs.

If it was busy, I'd do as PP's and either turn right or go straight and turn around. I wouldn't do a U-turn because I'm not comfortable with them! If it wasn't busy and I knew the light didn't have a camera, I'd probably run it.
