I need....

An AMAZING YA contemporary book.

I haven't read any of the fun stuff that's been popular lately. Preferably something with lots of feelings, or something with really fantastic characters.

Re: I need....

  • If you haven't read it yet, Eleanor & Park!
  • My favorite lately was This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales, but it isn't out until September. Womp womp.

Golden by Jessi Kirby was good. Did you read Just One Day?

  • A coworker got me into the Wings series by Aprilynne Park... I am obsessed. I just found out she released a new book called Earthbound that i'll be starting this weekend :)

Have you read Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt?

    It's amazing.

ETA: J/K.  It's not YA but it's still good and has younger characters and deals with coming of age.

I started Just One Day but I started to get kind of bored (::ducks::).

I don't know why I wasn't feeling it. I keep seeing buzz on TSWSYL! WANT IT.

I think I'll try Golden because the cover is so pretty.

Can you compare this to something I've probably already read?

I started reading that... and then also got bored.

    Maybe the problem is me?

    GAH.

  • It has some great quotable moments and I found her very witty. It's lighter but I enjoyed it.

This is a great description. I was trying to think of something to compare it to and I'm failing.

    It's got so many feels!

Wow, @EliStar, with all the raves for Tell the Wolves I'm Home, I thought I was a total weirdo for getting bored with (and not finishing) it.  I'm really relieved to see I'm not the only one!  #:-S

I'm reading Bruiser by Neal Shusterman right now and really liking it.  It has lots of feels, is YA and a very quick read (like I read 2/3 of it during DS' nap the other day and will be finishing it during his nap today).

  • I love Please Ignore Vera Dietz! It's pretty dark and the characters are quirky and awesome. I gave it 5 stars.

Eleanor & Park was great and Rainbow Rowell's other book, Attachments, reads like a 90s RomCom movie. Not YA, but so good. They both got 4 stars on GR.

Hate List by Jennifer Brown is really intense and heart breaking and wonderful. It's about a school shooting, so it's hard to read at times, but a really powerful story.

I think you would really like any of these.

I want This Song Will Save Your Life SO bad! It sounds like something I would love!

I never finished Tell the Wolves I'm Home, also never got on board with Just One Day, and I liked Time Between Us ok- it reminded me of The Future of Us in some ways.

Agreed.  I enjoyed the parts in The Future of Us that Jay Asher wrote, I don't think I'm a big Carolyn Mackler fan.  I read another one of her books and wasn't really blown away.

It's been a while since I read Time Between Us, but I seem to remember really, really liking it up to a certain point and then feeling like it fizzled out a bit.  Maybe I need to reread it so I can remember!
