Sugar Detox

I am WAY addicted to sugar, but I'm trying to get better since I'm BFing my daughter. I tried a 7 day sugar detox and had mixed results. I wrote a post about the ups and downs here: http://www.makingmine.com/sugar-detox-review/
Have you ever done a detox to "reset" your body? Any ideas for cooking/baking with sugar substitutes?

Re: Sugar Detox

  • I've done a detox in the past.  I chose to do a food-based detox because i liked the idea of using food to reset my body and learn some better eating habits instead of taking pills or juices all day.  It was a little too restrictive for me (only provided about 2 meal options for breakfast and 2 for lunch/dinner) and i got bored really quickly. I only lasted 3 of the 5 days, but I liked what it did in that timeframe.  I wasn't as reliant on caffeine (although I was allowed green tea to not die lol) and I noticed I couldn't handle a lot of sugar afterwards. Some stuff became far too sweet.

I am going to attempt it again using the same principals, but coming up with my own meals for variety.  I am also looking into the Your Tea "TeaTox".. its' an Australian based company, but it's NOT a laxative tea, which I see a lot of and I don't think are safe at all.  Just an herbal tea that's supposed to aid in digestion and de-bloat. I've heard nothing but amazing reviews and i'm pretty excited to try.

As far as baking substitutes go, I hear apple sauce works well instead of sugar, but i'm not sure of the exact measurements of that.  I came across a list on Pinterest once of TONS of cooking/baking substitutes... i'd do a search and see if you can find it :)
