How long would you wait...
So where I live there has been a parvo outbreak. I think it's up to 15 cases in the county now. Apparently someone thought it would be a good idea to hand out pit bull puppies in the city and they were all infected.
My pup Wilfred is vaccinated but I know the virus can still make your dog sick. We usually frequent 2 local dog parks but haven't gone at all in the 2 weeks since the outbreak was announced. One is locked and private. You have to provide proof of vaccinations before you can join. The other is a public one in the city. My friend wants to do a puppy play date Wednesday but I'm still worried he'll end up getting sick. Am I just being parvo paranoid? I haven't seen any sick dogs and my friend has been to the private one and says that everyone seems healthy as ever.
How long would you wait before returning to your usual dog park schedule?
Re: How long would you wait...
If so I would feel safe taking your dog.
If he is a puppy I would wait until 2 weeks after he has completed his full vaccination series.
Parvo lives in the ground for decades so either your dog has already been exposed there, or this outbreak has contaminated a once parvo free area (which i highly doubt) and it will be there as long as your dog is around.
