S/O Lurking Poll

1. I can't 100% remember, but I am thinking it was Pinky, Booney, YL, Julie...that whole crowd. It was probably like 8 or 9 years ago...who was active then?

2. I am such a book nerd. I like reading more than anything else in the world. I don't think that I needed any kind of push to start throwing my thoughts out there.

3. I first heard about the following on here: Outlander, Twilight, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games. I have read all of them except for Outlander. I OWN all the Outlander books (as Nook Books), but I have not taken the plunge yet.

4. Lots of Twilight nonsense. I don't remember anything else.

5. I tried out a challenge way back when. I decided I preferred reading purely for entertainment, and having categories to aim for didn't work for me. This is why I have read 30 books by Susan Mallery this year.

I keep forgetting that SBF was here then.  I knew her from my local but she was always here as well.  And, of course, kimminick.

5) Were there any specific NBC happenings going on?  Book bio, challenges, etc? Same as now -- seasonal challenges. There monthly discussions too though.

I posted here and there for years, but Twilight got me participating daily.

It was Twilight madness over here. It really changed the landscape of the board.

4) Were there any big nest scandals during your early days?
Just "You guys post too much Twilight" vs "Then post something else and stop complaining"

5) Were there any specific NBC happenings going on?  Book bio, challenges, etc?
Kiminick ran the book bio, there were no challenges back then, just the monthly read

4) Were there any big nest scandals during your early days? Not really a scandal, but I remember when the HP discussions got their own board. I also recall the 'changing of the guard' re. the book bio, but can't remember specifics. There was also some drama with a troll but I can't remember the name- some caribbean nest name. They were coming over from another board and causing havoc with posts against certain nesties/this board.

5) Were there any specific NBC happenings going on?  Book bio, challenges, etc? The seasonal challenges started, the book bio and monthly reads were already going on.

Time Traveler's Wife, The Red Tent, The Thirteenth Tale

Not that I recall. Later though, the whole changing of the guard when it came to the bookbio. That was a very diplomatic way to put it, yes?

The old school book bio. Historical fiction and more literary and women's fiction were more abuzz back then

We are from the same NBC Era!    Unfortunately there was a big exodus once Twilight exploded.  And there was a bigger exodus once everything went down with the bio.

I also remember Seansgirl (or some spelling like that) & a name with Doug in the SN.

Book bio and challenges. I sort of felt like the challenges were very competitive, but maybe that was just my interpretation.

Kiminick was in charge of the book club, but was hardly ever around anymore and it needed updating.  I paged her and asked if I could take over it but she never replied and general board consensus was go ahead and do it.  So I did and she showed up angry.  I felt terrible.  I think that's what happened, as far as I remember?

4) Were there any big nest scandals during your early days? Plenty, but not on NBC. NBC has no scandals.  Even the bio thing wasn't dramatic to me by Nest standards.

Yeah, this is about right.  If my memory is correct, Kiminick maintained the bio but she kind of drifted away during all of the Twilight hoopla.  Later someone (I guess Julie?) innocently asked how the bio got updated.  Kimi & some others who drifted away came back & got upset thinking the current posters were trying to take over the bio when really we just wanted to update it but we didn't have the password (it wasn't a separate website, it will a SN/bio within The Nest).

I also remember there being "drama" when someone admitted to regularly writing/highlighting library books.

Oh oh oh - remember when that one random chick went off on @Young_Love because she told a student to read Hunger Games before Catching Fire?  Wait... was that the right series?  It was some popular YA series I remember.  Hahaha!

Reading 1 before 2 was bad?? lol. Oh my. Aw I miss Kimminick. I met her when we were going through Nashville a good 5 years ago or so. Such a sweetheart.

YES!  And they time they got upset because YL's student teacher was helping her grade tests.

Oh, the Caribbean Nesties. That was maybe my absolute favorite.

It went from YL being a terrible teacher to YA books being below adults to us being cliquey to us stalking their board to... just... I mean. It was good. It was real good.

I loved this one because we were just like, "Listen, we are nerds and we are PISSED." It was just unashamed nerdiness and it was delightful.  lol. I bet that girl was like "Um, wut?" But she WROTE IN A LIBRARY BOOK. I mean. Come on.

I remember this too... Was this before or after the Amoura (was that the name?) girl who was positing spoilers in all the threads?  I think that's about the time I stopped lurking.
