Pediatric ENT - 4 Year Old Needs to Have Tonsils Removed

My son's tonsils are enlarged and his ENT suggested having them removed.  He saw Dr. Felder.  Did anyone's child have a procedure performed by him?  Is there anyone else that you would recommend for a second opinion.  Thanks!!

  • Poor bugger. What part of the city?

  • My son had both his tonsils and adenoids removed a couple of years ago.  Dr. Chi at Children's did the surgery and we couldn't have been happier with him and the hospital.  (He actually had to spend the night because of some sleep apnea issues, so we were there much longer than just a normal tonsilectomy).   I would definitely recommend him.   Please let me know if you have any questions!
  • My daughter had both tonsils and adenoids removed at age 2.  We saw Dr. Mehta at Children's.  It is a tough surgery.  The surgery itself went well, but we were in the hospital for 5 days bc she wouldn't eat or drink.  She was a picky eater at the time anyway, and since she was probably the only child who didnt want to eat jello or ice-cream-it was a tough recovery!  Though another child (probably close to 4 o 5) had her tonsils out and ate a full meal that night!  My daughter has an underlying health condition so we were going to be an overnight anyway (hadnt expected 5 days!) but typically it's an outpatient surgery.  I did like Dr. Mehta and took my son there when we were worried about a repeat situation.  I do know that typically, they don't like to take the tonsils out in young ones bc the recovery is so rough on them-how old is your son?  Has he had a sleep study?  Dr. Mehta sent us for a sleep study and since it showed moderate sleep apnea-he went ahead with the tonsils (first was just going to be adenoids bc he wanted to avoid taking out the tonsils...but after the sleep study, he felt this was the best route to take)  Good luck!!
