GTKY: Tonsils

Do you still have your tonsils? If not how old were you when they were removed?

  • WOW! I can't believe how many of you ladies have them still!? I was in first grade it was a horrible experience, my ENT doc did not inform my cardiologist of the operation, my parents asked a million times and they said yes. Well, they gave me the wrong meds and I went into heart failure, when they called my heart doc in she was livid had no idea I was even in there. This was at the same hospital  no excuses, long story short I was out of 1st grade for a month for a simple operation! Yi yi yi, for some dumb reason my parents still let me see dumbo doctor but anytime I went in for other operation they called my heart doc themselves.

  • Mine were removed when I was 19. They got infected twice in one year and the doctor decided they needed to come out.

  • I have to reply to this one -- hope you guys don't mind!

I had my tonsils taken out when I was in the 11th grade in high school. It was the most painful experience of my life (clearly, I haven't had a baby yet because i can only imagine what child birth is like...) But up until this moment in my life, it was the most painful experience. I had them taken out a week before thanksgiving break so i had that week to recover, thanksgiving break and I was planning to go back to school after the break but had to take an extra week because not only was I still in pain but I was so weak. I couldn't even swallow my own spit, I was spitting into a cup! I had to go to the hospital for dehydration. It was horrible!

I really hope that no one here as an adult needs theirs taken out!

  • I had mine out when I was 20. I got strep throat and wound up with a peritonsilar abcess. It was awful, I wound up staying 2 days in the hospital and readmitted a week later because the sutures didn't hold well and I was bleeding. They wound up taking me back to the OR to cauterize and resuture. I had no voice for a month and the next 6 I sounded like someone who smoked a carton of cigs a day.

  • I still have mine. I almost had to get them removed in 20O7 after having tonsillitis twice in one summer. I did have my adenoids removed in the 6th or 7th grade.

  • Still in there!

I know I had my adenoids removed as well but not sure how old I was when taken out.
