I've never made over $16.75/hr, and that was brief and good. I've made as little as $12/hr. this is all professionally, post college, in law firms. If minimum wage goes up then I'm never going back to a professional life again. Sign me back up for retail. Because I know none of those jobs would increase their salaries just because of a minimum wage increase. If I could not return to an office environment that would be lovely.

I hate how people think selfishly about poverty.  If we try to raise people out of poverty,  how does that affect me? Minimally.  Really. How does it affect the people in that situation?  Greatly. It might mean that a father gets to spend an hour or two with his kids that he wouldn't normally get because he works three jobs.

I know a lot of people out there think that people are lazy and don't want to work, blah blah blah, but my DH works for the unemployment office and he sees people every day that do REALLY want to work, but you literally cannot sustain a family on minimum wage.  And there are only so many hours in a day you can work these two and three jobs that people are suggesting they get.

I hate that people only sell "pack and plays now" instead of just calling them what they are. An f'ing playpen. I went to buy one for a baby shower and I finally had to break down and ask someone where the playpens were and I got this massive incredulous look of horror. He's like "they don't make playpens anymore, that's just cruel". Ok, I LOVED my playpen and my mom got shit done. God forbid. (And now they just call them something else anyway)

Huh.  I thought they were called pack and plays because that's what Graco calls theirs, and theirs are the most popular.  Kind of a Kleenex or Chapstick kind of thing.  I didn't know "playpen" was a bad word now.
