Our famliy leading the "pack" vs the dog

Our new dog (that I've posted about a few times in the last few week) is great.  My issue is that she doesn't see them as per pack leaders, she sees them more as her litter mates.  She bites when she plays with them.  She doesn't bite DH ever and rarely me, but constantly bites them when trying to play.  DS1 is almost 6, our twins are 3.5.

  • Sorry, I had a bunch of thoughts going through my mind at once and apparently didn't actually post my questions.

How do we make our dog not treat our kids like her litter mates and stop biting them for play?

  • Dogs know the difference between people and dogs. You need to make it clear that any sign of mouthing = no more play. Your kids need to get on board with this training, too. Once teeth are shown/near skin, they stop immediately and walk away.

  • NILF --- NOthing in Life is Free.

Check it out ---- and enforce it.

Get your dog to sit before she is permitted to do anything -- before she eats, goes out, gets petted, etc.

You need to reinforce that you and your H are "the boss."

Make sure that mouthing thing ends and ends asap. You might want to shake a can of coins at her or get bitter orange or ibtter lemon (pet stores sell it) and spray it right into her mouth when she gets mouthy.

And yeah, you might also try just walking away when the mouth issue shows up.
