Hysteroscopy UPDATE

I'm having a hysteroscopy tomorrow. My RE wants to see what's going on in there.

I'm kind of nervous. Who else has had one? Also, did you have sedatives or anything beforehand? I'm not having any and that makes me a little uneasy.
The nurse just said to take a few Advil about an hour beforehand.

UPDATE:

Apparently I have a beautiful uterus. It's actually kind of frustrating b/c I was hoping we might find something that would explain things. But, nothing. I have a follow up appt. with the RE next week.

As for the procedure itself, I think I am one of the rare ones who got unlucky. It hurt like a bitch and she kept having to dilate me and try to insert the camera again. I almost had an emotional meltdown right then and there, but I managed to keep it together.  Afterward I felt really dizzy and nauseated and had to lie down for a while. Bleh!

Re: Hysteroscopy UPDATE

  • I took Tylenol an hour before and antibiotics starting that day.  Mine was pretty quick and painless but of course a little uncomfortable.  It was definitely up close and personal though so a good grooming tonight would be a good idea ;)

I took the rest of the afternoon off from work because I was worried about bleeding and cramps, but I really didn't have any.  My one piece of advice is to bring your own pantyliner or maxipad because the one they give you is from 1970 and you have to waddle!

LOL, I thought of that too. I wore yoga pants to my D&C and regretted it b/c I'm sure I looked like I was wearing a diaper when I walked out of the clinic.

  • Mine was no big deal, I took 3-4 advil before the procedure because they told me to.  It was nothing like the HSG which I was sort of anticipating.  While she was in there, she said there was a small section that looked a little abnormal, so she took a biopsy - that part did hurt.  It worked out because it turned out to be endometritis (never even heard of that!), and I needed to go on antibiotics for 2 weeks to clear it up.  If everything is normal, you won't need a biopsy.  I also second the idea of bringing your own pad!

  • I'm sorry it hurt so much :(  I had a similar thing happen during the second biopsy I had done, and she had to keep using a tenaculum.  It was awful!  I'm glad you have a nice ute though!
