I liked it, but I think I need to reread it because I was not as head-over-heels for it as many here were.

I'm not thrilled with the casting.  I think I'm going to be tired of Shailene Woodley given that she's in this, Divergent and The Spectacular Now.  And the guy who is playing Augustus is also Caleb in Divergent.. it just sort of feels like they couldn't find any other teen actors.  But my understanding is that JG was involved in the casting process, so I will trust that he knows what he is doing!

I agree with you. When I saw that Shailene Woodley is going to be Hazel, I was unimpressed. I do like the guy they chose for Augustus, though. I haven't read Divergent yet, so I can't say how they will be at portraying those characters... I think Mike Berbiglia will be a great Patrick!

I loved the book so much but I'm not quite as enthusiastic about the film yet. It's taking me a minute to get on board.

I loved the book. I'm not sure how it's going to translate to a movie though.

I wasn't thrilled about Shailene at first but I've accepted it now. I'm not sure about Augustus though. I trust JG when he says he's great as Gus but he's really not what I pictured and I just don't know. Though I'm a bit unsure of him as Caleb in Divergent too.

 

And adding to the whole only so many teen actors thing - Peter in Divergent is the lead in The Spectacular Now? Is that right?

The book was my favorite. I've been avoiding posts about the movie because I'm still not ready. And because I can't see Shailene as Hazel AND Tris.

This. And because I'm generally suspicious about book to movie adaptations. There are very few I've liked.

I loved the book and I really do have high hopes for the movie.

I feel like TFiOS is a really movie-able book. There are no crazy special effects scenes, no little creatures, not an enormous need for CGI. I think as long as the actors can pull off good, solid emotion that it will translate well.

I think that it is encouraging that JG is so supportive and that he is there on set. I feel like having the author there has to be a giant help as far as getting the intended emotion down. 

I've never been one that gets bent out of shape because casting directors can't find the exact person my imagination dreamed up- I don't get upset that the person doesn't have the same color hair, the same build, whatever.... I think that is unreasonable. I think if they can find someone in the ballpark and that someone can embody the personality and emotion of the character, I'm happy with that. 

Admittedly, the actors playing Hazel and Augustus are totally unknown to me and I haven't even pulled up youtube videos of them acting, just seen pictures that JG has posted, but I feel like I can support that.

This is correct.

I  have a very hard time going from seeing her as Tris to Hazel to Aimee (her role in The Spectacular Now).. I know that talented actors and actresses can obviously play very different roles successfully, I just don't really understand why she is suddenly the go-to young actress.
