Winning conversation (loss mentioned)
I ran into an old "friend" a couple days ago at a coffee shop. Here is what ensued:
I am not making this up.
Her: When are you going to have babies? You're getting close to 30 you know
Me: We have been trying to have a baby for a little over a year now. Unfortunately we've had a few losses and are working with doctors to figure out the problem.
Her: Oh! Maybe it's because you are sooooooooooo skinny! You should eat more.
Me: No, I am a healthy weight and that has nothing to do with it.
Her: Maybe you should try IVF. My friend's friend did that and her baby finally stuck
Me: IVF is very costly and not covered by our insurance. It may not help us anyway. We are actually considering adoption and are excited about the possibilities which that could bring.
Her: That's great! Just be sure the real mom doesn't know who you are. You don't want her taking the baby back!
*facepalm*
Edited for formatting.
ETA: Apparently this person has had a few losses herself and her OB told her it was b/c she is being too emotional. I told her to find a new Dr.

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."
