All of this. What the huh? How is porn going to be made into a movie that can be showed in normal theaters? I won't be seeing it in any form. Yikes.
On a related note, DH heard about this becoming a movie and told me he thinks everyone who likes the book will hate it solely because of the lack of porn if it becomes a rated R movie. Which then got me wondering if the book actually has any plot on which to base a non-porn movie??

actually there is some plot, which was the most frustrating/disappointing part to me. the premise actually had the potential to be an interesting if fairly standard romance novel. so if the screen writers want to (and can depends on the exact film rights contract) they could easily fill that in adjust some of the sex scenes for an R rating and have a decent movie. since the big fans will go see it right away it won't hurt the fan showing too much and if its decent might even get some non-fan viewers who are curious if it gets decent reviews. i will wait for the dvd and may or may not watch depending on what I hear. unless my book club or MNO groups want to go then I'll tag along to be agreeable.
Besides the writing and the plot, my biggest problem with this story was that it painted people in the BDSM lifestyle as individuals that MUST be fucked up to be into that. It's depicted as something evil and something that he needs to be "cured" from. That's messed up. Not everyone in this lifestyle was abused as a child or has daddy issues. There are perfectly normal, mentally healthy people who enjoy these kinds of activities. As long as both are consenting adults, there's nothing wrong with it.
I'm not sure how they will ever get this down to an R rating and my curiosity may get the best of me when it comes to Redbox. But, no, I will not be forking over money to see this hot mess on the big screen.
This is how I feel about the book. If I want erotica, I'll just pick up some erotica. I don't need anyone to put a bestseller cover on it and pretend it's something else.
