The best way to organize?

Hubby to be and I are getting our own place after we get married, and want to start stocking up on things to use when we move.
What do you recommend? Which are best to use what containers or whatever?

Re: The best way to organize?

  • What exactly are you trying to organize? Closet, kitchen, crafts??

Whenever I need to brainstorm how to organize I visit the Container Store. I will spend so much money there, but they have so many incredible ideas/gadgets to help.
  • We just moved, and I packed most of our things (movers packed the rest. They were going to pack it all but H wanted me to pack.) I liked the plastic totes for books as I wasn't worried the bottom would fall through. I used all our suitcases for clothes/non breakable keepsakes. We were lucky in that we had lots of original boxes for things, especially our wine glasses.

If we'd just been moving ourselves, I'd have eventually bought one of those 'kits' of boxes, or at the very least, the plate packs and glasses packs. Lots on amazon, and I know Lowes has them too.
  • This might seem silly, but we used paper bags. We had tons from grocery shopping over the years (always asked for paper since they work best for throwing recyclables in). For the breakables, I just wrapped them in tissue and bubble wrap, made sure they were all in the same paper bag (double bagged) and just was careful about transporting it. Worked like a charm. For the extremely fragile, I put them in just a plastic Tupperware container.

We did use some boxes, mainly for odd shaped things like board games and books. I also kept the original boxes, so we put our wine glasses back in the box as well as our dishes.

As for buying containers, I LOVE the Sterlite containers (with the green and purple hands). You can get them at Target. They are sturdy and cheap.
  • Costco and Sam's have great deals on off brand lock and locks. I like the plastic for anything and the glass with plastic lids for food. The plastic are ok for food, but sometimes they leave a plasticky smell if it is something you're going to store for a long time. Happy new home!!
  • You can organize by using boxes. You can also use plastic bags.  You can also use containers like Tupperware and many unbreakable jars.

  • I think there is no need to organize things it will get automatically organized after you get married but though you can use Tupperware container, those are the best unbreakable option.
