  • Having their radio up too loud or singing at their desk.  Really annoying.
  • I work in a mental health clinic. Before I see a patient, the guy from the registration office needs to input the patient's demographic and insurance information in the computer. So if the registration guy is late seeing the patient, it makes me late seeing the patient. And it seems like the registration guy is ALWAYS late.

  • Not my co-workers but office life in general:

I don't need cake every day/week/birthday...come on guys, we already sit at desks all day like lumps of coal.  And it's always offered at like 9:30am!  Just no.

  • I'm a teacher, so I'm not in a traditional office environment. However, there are some things that still get on my nerves - a) sending an email attachment without the attachment, multiple times. b) asking for a "quick" favor for his/her club/activity/sport etc. that eats up at least 10 minutes of class time. c) leaving unwrapped food in the office fridge for days. and the one that REALLY got to me today: cutting off the pregnant lady in the bathroom line when YOUR CLASSROOM IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE STAFF BATHROOM.  We get five minutes between classes and this little critter keeps kicking my bladder and I'm in the opposite wing. NOT cool. /end rant.

  • Clipping finger nails at their desk. It just makes me cringe. One guy did it, and he left... Now I sit next to another guy that does it. DO IT AT YOUR HOUSE!

There is a meeting that I go to once a month and there is a guy that does this during the meeting!!

  • I have couple of co-workers who irritate me by their sheer presence alone...

  • One secretary in my school is just rude.  If you ask her something at a bad time for her she has a snide response.  If you don't do something to her exact protocol, she'll buzz into your room and yell at you over the loudspeaker.  Her protocol frequently changes also, it's hard to keep up at times.  It's been brought up with my principal multiple times and she glosses over it.

  • I'm a new teacher and my team was very tight knit last year. The guy who I replaced was a wonderful teacher and had a great personality, so I feel like I can't live up to their expectations of him. They're nice people, but I feel like there's a wall up that I don't know how to break through.

  • I'd say just give it time. I felt that way in my first year, too.  Now I'm in the sixth year and my colleagues in my department are some of my best friends.

Alternately, if you don't hit it off with them, keep your nose to the grindstone, do the work expected, share materials and be polite. :)  Everything your mom taught you when you were little works well for the workplace (especially as far as teachers are concerned!).

    Good luck!
