So my husband and i are meal planning and we know that for every meal/snack you need protein, carbs, and fat...

I'm sitting here trying to plan some stuff and i'm having a really hard time with thinking of that fat part. i'm sure with some of my meals i already have it there but not sure what to put

You're way more indepth with meal planning than me! We're a starch/protein/veggie kind of family.

We use a lot of good oils and try to eat fish once or twice a week, and then keep nuts and peanutbutter around for snacking.

  • You don't actually need to eat fats every single time you eat, but it does need to be a regular feature of your diet, assuming it's healthy fats and you consume them in moderation. Olive oil is a really good one. It's easy to use as a vinaigrette, drizzle over vegetables, as a cooking oil, etc. Avocados are another great source of fats as well as nuts. Some full-fat dairy can be good for you as well like eggs, cheese and yogurt, but you don't want to go overboard with it because it's not all unsaturated. Fish and fish oil are also really good sources.
