Fall fashion help

I really want to venture into wearing more skirts/dresses in the fall with tights and boots. I need help finding stuff though! I struggle with finding stuff that isnt super casual but not super dressy and that is fall appropriate. I just ordered a few fall dresses on Lands End but I don't have high hopes on them fitting. I have such a hard time finding stuff to fit (very petite). I ordered some corduroy skirts from Loft that I thought would be perfect but the petite is shorter than Id like and the regular doesn't fit. Ugh! I'm so desperate for some cute fall clothes. I keep ordering stuff online and keep having to do returns! Any advice/help?

Oh I should mention I'm looking mostly for work. We are casual so skirts/tights/boots are fine but the short Loft skirt feels too casual/not appropriate. But I don't want too dressy. I really like something like this http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=7209440020001&cid=46805 But while I was reading reviews my size sold out! Ugh!

Here is a list of some popular petite bloggers. From the fashion boards I belong to, a lot of petite girls make really good friends with a tailor.

Banana Republic, J.Crew, Nordstrom, Ann Taylor all carry petites. Do you have a price point you would like to stick to?

Also, invest in a good slip. Life saver so you don't get your skirt riding up because of the friction between it and you tights. Also a less fitted skirt, more a-line usually works best for static issues.

    Here is some skirt ideas:

I am a fan of dresses with tights and boots.

I have last year's version of these that I wear with tights, boots, and scarf all fall & winter:

My sister just got this from J.Crew and it is super cute: Tie Waist Tweed Mini

My other sister has the following and wears them with tights and boots:

    I will post more later.

  • Here is some options from Talbots:

Your welcome. I believe my husband may just say I have a shopping addiction and am a hoarder. :(  When we moved, I had an entire carload of shoes and purses. It took three trips to bring my closet over and that was after I purged.

It probably doesn't help that two of my sisters work for clothing companies and I get some major hookups.

  • I was hoping for you to respond Kris!! Okay so the pics all look SO short! Maybe Im a prude haha! I did look at the BR one but felt it was too short. But I really like the Talbots one! I hadn't thought to look at their site. I have been looking everywhere!

Oh and price point wise I really don't care! Ha! Ok so I would like under $100 although would love cheaper. But am willing to spend if I have to!

  • I don't think a skirt is too short for work if it is below your fingertips.

If you are short and you wear a thick opaque tight, you can do a little shorter and still be respectable.

You can also wear leggings instead of tights, which I do with shirt dresses a lot.

Plus, while the links are to the petite versions, the sites use the same pictures for regular/petite/tall. I have learned never to trust the website picture because the models are usually a lot taller and leggier than I am. I have short legs so most things are always longer than they appear online. Case in point, I bough this Banana Republic Issa Collection dress. On the models it is mid-thigh, on me it is knee-length.

nice! always good to get to get an in with clothing! i am definitely interested in the whole dress/skirts with tights and boots so feel free to show any pics. i don't think im that unstylish but haven't done this look much yet!! thanks!!
  • Maybe it's morso me just not being comfortable with it and needing to get used to but maybe with the right skirt it would work.

I agree I usually don't trust the model but I think I had gone off the length measurement. I think it was similar to the loft one. The loft petite one just felt too short and I preferred the no petite length but it didnt fit. But ultimately I didn't love the overall fit. Maybe I'd like a different skirt better if it fit better even if short.
