Mind if I join?

I've lurked for a quite a long time and would love to have people to talk about what books I'm reading

I'm 29, DH is 34, we were married in Las Vegas April 2012, we have 2 cattle dog/heeler mixes, Dexter (after the show and DH is a CSI) and Gia (after the super model).  We live in Orlando, FL and I read a lot!  Probably not as much as y'all, but more than anyone I know.

I'm almost finished with Insurgent, and going to probably try out Outlander next.  My favorite series that I finished is the Wool/Shift series.

So, can I hang with ya'll?  (and yes, I do think y'all is an appropriate word and use it a lot.)

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."

  • Do you speak Harry Potter?
I don't.  I actually never even held a copy of HP.  Weird, huh?  I didn't really care for the movies, either.  I think it's the British thing, my mind doesn't handle accents well.  Except for Dr. Who, my mind is alllll about some DW.

All of my office left to do a tour of our property (I work for a hotel company and we're doing major renovations) and I drew the short straw and have to stay and answer phones.  So I'm reading on my kindle app.
  • Hi and welcome!

I'd recommend reading the HP books if the accent thing bothers you. While, yes, the characters are British, in your head you can give them a more neutral accent. The stories are too wonderful to set aside because of an accent.

  • @Lauren620 Around here, I don't have a strong accent, but I wonder if it's enough for you to pick something up.  J will be all like WTF did she do to you?

This makes me sad.  Did you try it and not like it, or just haven't picked it up for whatever reason?

  • Welcome to the board! Yay for Outlander. I'm going to do a reread of that series soon.

Hang around here awhile, we will get you hooked on Harry Potter!

Is it all accents? Or just British accents in particular?

  • @SnShne322, I got irrationally excited when someone said something was "wicked good" when we were in Boston this week. It gives me joy.
