Avent Double Pump

Does anyone have any experience with it? It's $100 less than the Medela double and has good reviews, better ones for cleanliness in fact. I am considering it but wondered if any of you had first hand experience.

Re: Avent Double Pump

  • Does your insurance not cover a pump? I haven't seen many reviews on the Avent, but most people around here get either the Ameda or the Medela pumps.

  • Unfortunately it doesn't. We have double coverage, both through Blue Cross Blue Shield. DH's plan covers nothing and my plan will only cover $28 toward a manual.

  • That's a bummer!

I would check out blog reviews for the Avent if no one here has experience with it. Also, I'd shop around, check Amazon if you haven't already to compare prices of the pumps you're interested in. You can usually get them for a lot less than if you were purchasing at say, Babies R Us or another physical store.

  • I do have this pump. I've had a lot of trouble with it, but I guess Im getting more. It's really hard to review a breast pump, lol. I've never used the medela, but I would spend an extra $100 for one. If insurance didnt cover a pump, I might just hold off on getting a pump. It isn't recommended to pump, unless necessary, until 3 or 4 weeks PP anyway. If medically necessary, you're better off renting a hospital grade pump. And I would want to make sure that BF really was the right decision for me before spending that money. Then, if I did buy a pump, I would spend an extra $100 to get the best. I think you're going back to work, so you'll be spending a lot of time with your pump. This is one baby item that I would splurge on.

  • I agree with @mrads. I have a medela, which I loved, but I didn't buy it until I was on the way home from the hospital without my baby and I had to pump to bring my milk in. I wish I had rented a hospital pump, though. I will the next time if the same thing happens, even though I have a medela.

All BFing/NICU issues aside, I think I would spend the extra $100 on the medela if I went back and did it all over again.
