NBR: Florida People

I feel like I remember this being discussed recently. Some said Florida is part of the south, some said it is definitely is not. I saw this on Pinterest and had to laugh at how Florida was labeled.

That's totally how I think of it being divided.

  • I just read a book earlier this month called American Nations, about how America is really divided, the history of the divisions and how they still stand today. Pretty interesting. Here is the map he came up with:

So he agrees with both of you, that it's part of the south and also not part of the south. He says in the book that Florida is in flux, too, because of the massive number of baby boomers that go to Florida from all over the country, negating much of the deep south influence.

(Here's a way more through, well thought out review than I could ever write, if you're interested)

What really bakes my noodle is dividing the nation by college sports conferences.

Since when is South Bend, IN a coastal city? Yet Notre Dame = ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference)

Why is University of Florida in the SEC but Miami and FSU are in the ACC?

How are Iowa State, Texas Tech, and West Virginia University (effectively spanning 2400 miles) even in the same conference?

And why does the Big Twelve have 10 colleges but the Big Ten has 12 colleges?

It's enough to drive this OCD'er insane.
